Summary
A retelling of the Hobbit, from before the fall of Erebor to a bit after the Battle of the Five Armies. When Gandalf finds her a job under the mountain, Reader meets Thorin Oakenshield at his betrothal ball and falls deeply in love. After being separated during the fall of the mountain, Reader spends a deal of time wondering what he is up to when Gandalf approaches reader for another quest. It is then that reader realizes that her original quest may not have ever ended. (NSFW B)

Summary
As much as he tries, Bilbo cannot stop looking at a certain majestic dwarf. The Quest is a journey of self-discovery, but also an unexpected awakening of his desire, that Bilbo learns to accept and embrace. Meanwhile, Thorin is not as oblivious as the hobbit thinks, and may be laying a snare of his own.
This fic and companion art piece were created specifically for TSF2024 as a tribute to Thorin’s beauty amidst the blossoming season, exploring how a hobbit, knowledgeable with flower-language, would perceive it as part of his own sexual awakening. The blossoms of early spring Bilbo admired from a distance, turned into ripe fruits to be devoured in the summer.

“Care to explain all of this?”
In answer, Thorin handed him the request printout. “My custom bookings have been closed ever since, well…” He knew that Bilbo would get it. “I tried drawing something new tonight. Tried and failed.”
“You haven’t failed. Every artist gets blocks now and again.”
“Blocks of months on end?”
“It’ll take time, sorting out whatever you need before you’re able to get to that place. But I do know you’ll get there.” And Bilbo smiled so goddamn earnestly that Thorin almost believed him.

Thorin is the head tattoo artist at The Lonely Mountain, struggling to adjust after the sudden loss of his younger brother. Steady work is found in repeating old flash designs, but creating something new in his art—and in his life—is less than straightforward. A new artist at the studio may help lift him from the pits of his grief, but the dull pain of Frerin’s death lingers like a fresh tattoo. Like any wound, it must be cared for.
