Summary
Told through a layered collage of early-2000s digital artifacts—HTML-styled memos, pager-era texts, Yahoo! Mail confessions, Ask Jeeves search histories, and unfiled medical notes: this fic reconstructs a single Valentine’s Day at Princeton-Plainsboro with clinical precision and devastating intimacy. What begins as a routine hospital memo about professionalism and pink dress codes slowly unravels into something far less containable: fifteen years of repressed feeling, documented in fragments that were never meant to be seen together.
As House records, deflects, deletes, and analyzes, the gaps between entries begin to speak louder than the words themselves. A subject-less email. A coffee left on a desk. A decision made long before either of them admits it exists.
By the time the records stop being records, and start becoming something honest, the outcome feels both inevitable and impossible to avoid.
Some things can’t be filed, explained, or ignored forever.
