It's there now; a heavy, cold presence, watching and waiting for him to make a mistake. Waiting for a moment of hesitation, a lapse in the constant defence of the thing infesting his house. Because Alex knows that's what it is: an infestation, a parasite searching for a host.
There is something in the basement, and it's watching him now, from the top of the staircase as he lingers in front of the door. Unable to break the barrier between him and the festering, saturating rot of the body in the basement.

Leslie wilted, the door squealed as her hand faltered. The air was thick with dust, it glittered in the sunbeams gathered around bug-ridden windows and settled in far too many layers to be safe on every surface.
“Well…” She should have cleaned it before coming, but she’d wanted to see it for the first time with Rory by her side.
“Are those arched doorways?” Rory peeked through the hallway into the living room and the kitchen, “Is that an original staircase? Leslie! It’s old wood!”
“Well yeah, that’s why I got this one.” Leslie checked her fingernails to hide the fondness rising into her cheeks.
Rory ran over to her, skating to a stop on the dusty linoleum to give her a kiss, her warm, strong arms wrapped tightly around her waist. “I love it. We’re not staying here until professionals clean it and pest control comes in, but I love it.”- Language:

In other words, Hiroto eats a centipede. Ariu plans to exact revenge against the Soga over the Mikaboshi's demise. Akemura gets Hiroto as his only visitor. The other five wielders poke at Hiroto over Akemura's actions. Hiroto suffers (more) because he won't reveal Ariu survived. Everything changes.
