Summary
Beth Harmon.
To himself, Vasily immediately half-jokingly dubbed her a “passing pawn” and smiled at his joke with a corner of his lips, the only smile that he could allow himself in relation to her.
He wasn't afraid of Harmon. But it will be interesting to see her the moment he puts her back in her place. There was something in this, in the fact that he was the one who returned her to her place. Something that excites him in a way that is different from ordinary victories. Wrongly exciting.

Summary
Moscow was supposed to be the end of this persistent curiosity, yet it seemed now that it was only the mouth of the pitfall that would lead him to an early grave. Beth Harmon was a luminary- a flame that had caught Vasily in a choke-hold. From the moment he saw her eyes darken with the same hunger and madness that he holds- fervently staring at him as though she wanted to peel open his skin- he knew that she was going to dethrone him. But she was never supposed to be a linchpin. His life was meant to revolve around keeping himself superior to her, but instead he found it revolving around her.
He thought that getting bested would finally snuff out these dangerous feelings. But as he held her warm lithe form against his body- the sound of applause echoing around them like thunder; Vasily Borgov, consciously for the first time, was reminded of the fact that Beth Harmon was a beautiful woman.
— ✧ —
Five times Borgov thought of Beth's features in a way that made his stomach weak, and one time when he decided to finally do something about it.

Summary
When her mother deliberately crashes their car, it ends Beth’s life as she knows it and strands her at Methuen Home. She has yet to learn of the chain of events this will set in motion. The one that will start with her introduction to the world of chess, give her a new mother, and take her far beyond the borders of Lexington.
As she works her way towards the very centre of that world, she meets numerous other people along the way. But among weak opponents, friendships, rivalries, and hardships there is one person who sticks out from among them all. Vasily Borgov, the intimidating World Champion from the Soviet Union with a face that is much harder to read than the sixty-four squares he rules over, catches her eyes from the start and she finds it impossible to look away.
Or, we follow Beth through canon and into the years beyond as she struggles with finding her place in the world, creating bonds with others, and substance abuse, but also finds the good things in life, such as success, friendship, and love.

Summary
Fatherhood can mean different things to different people. For most of his life so far, it meant something easy for Vasily Borgov, no matter if it was his relationship with his own late father or his relationship with his son. But things do not always stay easy, and from the day his dear Liza entered his life, she has complicated many things. And now it is time to come face to face with the most significant complication of them all.

Summary
She thinks he feels the same draw she does. An intellectual fascination, of course, for the only other person who can match them. But a sexual one too. It comes with the territory, she thinks, she’s never been truly attracted to a man who couldn’t match her for brains. She never tries to hide it from him – feels no shame in it at all, in fact. He’s handsome and familiar, with a consistent solidity to him that appeals to her after the slippery, whippet-thinness of Benny. Beth is a person with a bad habit of clinging onto the familiar whether it’s good for her or not. She’s been watching him on screens and in pictures since she stole her very first copy of Chess Review; she knows his face better than most men in her life. And, anyway, this can’t be worse for her than the pills.
