Gerard didn’t want to die in June for several reasons, the first and perhaps most important being that they felt it didn’t suit them. It wouldn’t be proper. It wouldn’t make sense to die in June, with all of the white-hot hurting days of summer yet to come. January is a time to die. Maybe October. Summer is for living. Gerard knew very well he wasn’t built for summer, and so did his coworkers at the archive, because he had walked into work on Thursday morning looking like Lydia Deetz in an elaborate black dress, wearing sunglasses indoors. It was clear to everyone that the hot bright world outside was not one Gerard was built for, and this place, these stacks and files and temperature regulated rooms were more suited to their nature.

Once they’d confirmed that Frankie would be filling in as the rhythm guitarist, Ray had shot her wife a quick text to keep her updated about the current situation. Even if Gee hadn’t already been invested in the tour to begin with, as well as Ray’s career as a whole, it was always worth informing her about when Mikey scored a win. They’d set up a call for when Gee got home from the Marvel offices and Ray hadn’t held back describing the tiny punk girl, who threw herself and her guitar around the stage as if they were unbreakable.
But there were a few things Ray neglected to share. For example, she decided to keep it to herself that Frankie fiddled obsessively with the ring piercing her lower lip, flicking her tongue out like a lazy snake to taste the cold metal. There was no reason for Gee to know about that, she reasoned. Just like it wasn’t necessary to inform Gee that Frankie’s soft and delicate hands, with their hardened fingertips, made her want to sin.
