I’d locked eyes with Mensah, looking like that. My energy weapons had deployed, without my awareness or direction. My targeting systems had identified her and Bharadwaj, quite insistently, as direct and immediate threats.
Maybe this is just a temporary, dangerous, system glitch, and a hard restart will fix me. I’ll just restart, comb through my code, do some debugging, find the corrupted files or whatever, and then I won’t indiscriminately murder my most trusted humans.
I should know by now to always assume the worst.
In which SecUnit is having some survival threat…response errors. And some…’targeting its humans’ malfunctions. And some…blackouts when restarting. I’m sure it’s fine.

So maybe I should’ve noticed I had bullshit magic powers sooner, but in my defense I didn’t think magic was real. Most sane people would insist magic isn’t real.
Wait, whoops, the ghosts would claim it’s not magic. It’s “the Force” (in case you’re wondering, yes, you can hear the capitalization), and I’m a “Force-sensitive” which means I’m able to manipulate the mysterious, supernatural (but definitely not magical) force that a bunch of old dead monks decided to name the Force. (Not that I’m making fun of their naming sense. It’s apt even if it must’ve gotten confusing sometimes.)

Summary
Murderbot (and for some reason Ratthi*) have joined the crew of the Perihelion on a mission to investigate a station on a planet that was abandoned after an attempted mining operation failed. A salvage company that had sent a mission to the planet a few years ago had also mysteriously abandoned the planet. As Murderbot explores the abandoned station, it and the crew discover that someone is still living there.
