Made for Harmony Out Of The Ordinary Fest 2026 by Mr_YK_Potter
A common element in Harry/Hermione fanfics is his realization of 'How would I ever have survived/passed my courses/defeated Voldemort/etc. without her?' The way the books are written he would have to change, at least when it comes to his home work. His natural magic ability is more than good enough to “pass” Hogwarts and he is the one who has most of the detective abilities earlier on. The story would be very different, but not impossible.
So this fic does 2 things. 1) It forces Harry to be more self-reliant as he is slowly abandoned by those he holds dear and what would happen to Harry without Hermione. 2) What would happen when Hermione came back into his life after the war was over and Harry did it all without her.
I plan for this to be a bit spicy. Not just in smut but also in the complex emotions Harry has surrounding Hermione’s departure, absence, and return. So expect some angst and some drama as it leads to the eventual harmony of Harry and Hermione.

Tom had always considered it particularly petty on Albus Dumbledore’s part in assigning Tom to be the one to introduce muggleborn first years to Hogwarts. He was sure that Albus thought it was some sort of teaching moment, exposing Tom to muggles repeatedly as though he’d gain some sort of empathy and moral epiphany whenever he met a half-decent parent.
However, it didn’t matter how many muggles he met or how many of them actually tried to be a decent parent to their magical children. There were more failures than successes, more broken homes and troubled children than not.
And it seemed to be getting worse every year.
