“Or puh-pants,” Bill responds, matter of fact and amused.
Eddie glances down as Bill says that and his face goes bright red. He also purses his lips, maybe to keep himself from saying anything, maybe to keep himself from insulting Richie.
“Wuh-we wanted to make shuh-sure that you were okay,” Bill starts, “I mean, according to Eddie, you left pretty suddenly this muh-morning, and if you’re sick we thought you might need some dinner, or your huh-homework from today, or something.”
“I don’t need my homework,” Richie blows out a puff of smoke to his left, and continues, “And I’m not sick.”
Richie glances over at Eddie for a second. He’s still just… staring at Richie’s bare legs. Okay, so that’s something to think about later, maybe.
“Okay, so what’s wrong with yuh-you?” Bill sort of impatiently asks. “We’re huh-here to help you Richie.”
Richie hesitates for a second. “…It’s kinda hard to explain.”

The blood tingled under his skin as Spike sucked hard kisses into his neck. “You,” Angel sighed, “are ruining my whole plan.”

Realization #1: Steve is wearing a costume. He’s dressed as Springsteen on the cover of Born In The U.S.A. The album cover is staring at Eddie from the stack of records by the speakers, and he flicks his eyes between the cover and Steve, almost laughing at how obvious the resemblance is.
Immediately after that, revelations two and three slam into him like an eighteen-wheeler.
#2: Bruce Springsteen is kind of hot.
#3: Steve Harrington is really hot.
A fourth and much louder thought echoes through Eddie’s brain: oh, shit.

Eddie likes his shirts. That’s safe to say. He has a respectable collection of band shirts, mostly black tees bought at concerts or from thrift stores with their prints faded and peeling from wear and washing, plus of course his treasured Hellfire Club shirt and the big cozy red and black flannel that he adds to his personal uniform of double denim and leather for another layer of warmth in winter. They're a fine practical piece of clothing, no question, they're good for expressing yourself with pictures and slogans, and they can have a lot of sentimental value depending on the experiences you've had with them. He hopes one day kids will feel that way about their Corroded Coffin shirts.
All of that, he'd say, is a normal and reasonable way to feel about the humble shirt.
What's not normal or reasonable is his whole Steve shirts thing.-

“I never was in the scene,” he replies, without even caring for who he’s talking to, “and excuse me but what the fuck is that? I mean, fine, no one knows it’s a Springsteen song, whatever, but like, how the hell you take that and turn it into that dance remix garbage? You take a song about how much people yearn for each other with that music and which was written to be played on darned electric guitars and you turn it into this - this trash? What the fresh hell? I already got dragged here but I’m not listening to Springsteen getting hacked with a goddamned hatchet while my ears bleed, for -”
Then he realizes he’s just about ranted at someone he barely even looked at.

Summary
She’s changed so much since this all began- she’s hardened, brazened. Nancy is tough and independent, something Steve has learned the hard way. But it’s only in this moment that he sees just how vulnerable she still is, and he wants to kick himself for it. How could he let his guard down? How could he drag them all down here? How could he let her become a target?
The others are yelling at him, he registers distantly, and he wishes he were more like Dustin and Nancy- he wishes he could think clearly in moments like this, when it mattered.
But all he can think about is Springsteen in his car and Nancy’s sweet voice and a smile that was just for him.
And so he sings.

Nancy just grins, wincing a bit at the reminder of her recent late night escapades. For the past three weeks since Vecna was defeated, she has spent more time in this store than she’s spent asleep in her own bed. It started with the movies, with needing a distraction. After.. everything, and then the Jonathan thing on top of it all… It’s reasonable to need a distraction, right? But she’s got plenty of movies at home. Mike’s collection of action movies could certainly keep her up for at least a week straight. There’s no need for the constant trips. (If not simply for the company).
(Nancy doesn’t want to think about that).
