Summary

Though Sero had tried to pass it off as a bleak joke, as if it hadn’t bothered him at all, he could hear the weakness in his own voice. The way the words tumbled out rather than glided like they would have if he were truly amused. He cursed himself silently for this, looking back down at his omelet.
Aizawa let out a sigh across from him.
Sero didn’t need to look up to know the older man was rubbing at his remaining eye in that overly fatigued way of his. He watched as his homeroom teacher, in his peripheral, picked up a chipped coffee mug, held it as if he might drink from it, and then set it down again without ever doing so.
Sero wasn’t the only restless one, it seemed.
He had no idea if that made this entire thing better or worse.

This was going to be the movie version of, “If Stratt Read Project Hail Mary,” until I saw the movie. When I saw the movie, I learned that the movie version of Stratt would never have deliberately scared Grace to get what she wanted the way book Stratt did in my other fic, so although the premise of this fic is what I originally planned (movie Stratt had a dream that was the Project Hail Mary movie and that caused her to do things differently) it goes in a pretty different direction than my fic where book Stratt had access to the Project Hail Mary book. I hope you like it.
