Summary
The Jester arrives—bells chiming too bright against stone and incense, laughter spilling where there should be reverence. She smiles too easily, stands too close, lingers as if she has nowhere else to go. A court jester with a permanent smile and magic that bends space, and she is very determined to stay.
Dark Cacao’s kingdom is built on sacrifice, her halls lined with the names of warriors who died for her rule. She endures them because she must, not because she wishes to.
At night, Cacao finds herself thinking of those who no longer have to stand watch. Of rest. Of stillness. Of how tempting it might be to disappear. How some nights the queen envies how final their rest is.
Shadow Milk fills the quiet on purpose. She becomes noise, color, interruption. Where others approach the queen with expectation, Shadow Milk brings disorder instead.
