Summary
Rain raps wildly against the apartment's windows, drowning out the pounding of Izuku's pulse. Shigaraki simply smirks in response.
Izuku keeps his distance. “You know you lost decay, right? You’re just a vestige. You can’t do anything, and you can’t break me.”
Slowly, Shigaraki raises a hand and presses his index finger to his lips. A shush breathes out of him like a death rattle.
“He was so easy,” Shigaraki whispers. “Like snapping a toothpick.”
Energy flips and swarms in Izuku’s chest. Sometimes when he’s alone, he swears he can hear it: the first bone that he’s told was broken.

Shigaraki returns to Izuku as a lone vestige, resolving to make Izuku’s life as miserable as possible through threatening Katsuki’s safety. Familiar with carrying the world on his shoulders, Izuku buries the burden behind his hero mask, convinced he should handle this alone. Juggling the responsibilities of a part-time pro and a full-time symbol means he can’t afford to let anything slip through his fingers.
Katsuki, however, seems hell-bent on being the one who steps in to help him carry that weight.
No matter how much it hurts.
