Kalim is tired. Ever since Jamil’s Overblot, he had been distancing himself from Jamil. Jamil is (was?) important to Kalim. But right now Kalim can’t look at Jamil without remembering the truth of his friend's bitterness at Kalim, at his situation in life. Jamil regrets his actions - deeply. But Kalim can’t forget the memory of the hate in Jamil’s eyes.
Sometimes he wishes he was never born as Kalim Al Asim…
One magical book later and Kalim gets what he wants: the opportunity to run away. He takes it, he just didn't expect Riddle and Azul (who had rapidly become Kalim’s friends as Kalim constantly used Riddle and Azul and housewarden duties as excuses to run away from Jamil) with their own reasons to come along.
Kalim isn't the only one who wants to escape, and when the reflection in the mirror is different - well why not take advantage?

Summary
The Prince of Briar Valley, Malleus Draconia, in his overblot, had become a murderer. That was an indisputable fact that Sebek could not comprehend, even after traveling back into the past. But how could he deny it, as he always denied slander to his liege's character, when he could clearly remember seeing the dead bodies of his upperclassmen littering the Diasomnia bridge? Of his fellow first years lying unmoving on the Main Street of the school?
Now, in a future left behind, his liege would be forever alone. Lost in madness caused by loneliness that Sebek had failed to see. No, that was wrong. Sebek had seen it, but Sebek had always seen it as something worthy of praise.
He had been so foolish, he had claimed to wish to protect his liege but refused to acknowledge that his liege- that Malleus did not want to be alone. Sebek had failed to notice how fragile Malleus's happiness was, it had been so fragile that Lilia's announcement to leave NRC and Silver's tears led to his overblot.
Sebek could not let it happen again. He had to try harder this time, to be what Malleus really needed back then. If only he could stop being afraid of Malleus, that would be great.

So the summary is simple to simple actually so what happened is Leona tried to escape responsibilities but came back with a fox child. Years later, that same fox child arrives at Night Raven College still calling him “big brother,” still causing problems, and still somehow acting like he is Leona’s responsibility.
Leona is tired.
Ace is thriving.

The plan to stop Malleus’ overblot was failing. Even Sebek could see that it was too late to save him and Sebek was bleeding out on the carpet.
Thwack! Silver’s corpse hit the ground a few inches away from the half fae. The only people left fighting were Leona, his arm cut to shreds, and Ortho, who appeared to be floating over to Sebek.
Sebek’s vision goes black as Ortho reaches his prone form.
Or:
Malleus’ overblot kills everyone so Ortho and Sebek time travel to fix everything.
