Maybe, if he had been born in a kingdom more accepting of the power that coursed through his veins, people would celebrate it. Cheer at the vines curling at his fingertips. Clap for the golden light that rushed forward to heal his injuries. They would celebrate him, Prince Theseus, second-in-line to the throne.
But he was not born in such a kingdom.

He can prevent their destruction if he can just get past his own grown fears of them. He can do this by himself, it's what is best for them all. He can keep them from breaking apart, keep Wilbur and Tubbo from all the pain they've experienced. Tommy can do this for them, even if he's a little bit cracked now. If they get suspicious, well, what was that play Wilbur mentioned once? Hamlet? Tommy can just do what that guy did.
(Tommy time travels into the past and begins to disguise his traumatic responses as the same kind of Chat Madness his older brother Techno is known for. But madness begets madness, and how far can Tommy go with a lie that begins to bleed at the edges?)

“Gold?” a porcelain smiley-faced figure questions, kneeling before the child and offering out a hand. His face is hidden, his voice is dripping with amusement and greed, but Tommy takes the hand of the first person that has listened since his parents died.
“He can spin straw into gold?” the emperor questions, a great being with wings of smoke and death and eyes as cold as ice. His twin sons laugh like a funny joke has been told, identical pairs of tusks gleaming in the light of the throne room, and a challenge is set.
Three days. A room of straw.
