"Is this some kind of joke?" I whispered in shock, my voice trembling as I stared at the reflection in the ornate mirror before me. Well, her mirror. The polished silver showed a face I knew all too well—just not my own. Pale skin, a cascade of silver-gold hair, and violet eyes that could only belong to one person.
"Who the hell did I piss off to become her? The Black Queen?" My words were almost a growl as I gripped the edges of the vanity, the cold metal biting into my fingers.
That's right. One moment, I was just me, heading home after another long day, and the next... a car came out of nowhere. I don’t even remember the impact, not really. It was too fast. No flashes of light, no angelic choirs—just darkness. And then I was here.
The next thing I knew, a maid was shaking me awake, her voice trembling with reverence as she called me Princess Rhaenyra.

“Your chosen mate, Kal-El. Batman.” Kelex answered without pause, as if the answer was obvious.

Tim frowns. Punishment? He hasn't been punished yet. "Right…"
"You need to take care of yourself. I need you to understand how important it is." He finally turns around, face drawn but firm. "How important you are."
He swallows hard, looking down at his shoes. "I know," he mutters, fists clenching at his sides. "I know I let everyone down, and I'm sorry." When he peeks back up, Bruce nods, but he looks somehow even more upset. He steps forward, opening his arm in invitation. Tim presses into his side, familiar weight falling over his shoulder.
"I'm doing this for your own good," he says softly, almost like it's more to himself than to Tim. Before Tim can ask him what he means, Bruce pulls out the chair.
Oh.
"B, no!" he whines, trying to squirm out from under Bruce's arm. But Bruce's grip grows firm and he can't get away. "Please, no, I'm sorry— I'm sorry, I promise it won't happen again please no please—"
"Tim."

He opens the door to the scent of sweet life and fear. Even after all this time, his precious bird's fear always betrays him. Jason lays in bed, a sheet covering his bare lower half. His eyes are closed, and his chest rises and falls in a steady rhythm. Practiced. Convincing enough, if it had been a human stalking toward his bedside, sinking so softly to the mattress that it doesn't even dip under his weight.
He can fake the breathing of sleep. He can fake the stillness of sleep. But he can't fake the hummingbird flutter of his heart. The scent of fear as his blood pumps through his veins.
