As they unravel a royal conspiracy, Emmrich and Lucanis' trust and friendship gradually become something more: something worth living for.

Since his dear friend, First Talon Lucanis, will be out on a job, he gets contract negotiator Seraphine Montilyet as a minder. Seraphine, shrewd and watching for any sign Emmrich Volkarin might be after the Dellamorte riches - there are rumors! - soon stumbles across a far bigger problem. The people of the city adore the professor and think Lucanis treats him badly.
Someone will have to make those two ridiculous men face the fact they are in love. Seraphine just wishes it wasn't her.

Summary
A story in which Rook is too fast, and too reckless, and hopelessly in love. (Mostly) Canon-compliant chronological telling of Veilguard in vignettes, primarily focused around Emmrich-related quests, and building Rook into the man that falls for his necromancer.
Rook had never been afraid of falling.
Rook wasn’t sure what might suit him as well as a whitler’s haven suited Davrin, but he knew what was missing. Warmth. Given the choice, Rook would have surrounded himself in autumn tones, warm cherry woods and piles of cushions, and a fire place. What did it mean that the lighthouse seemed not to know him?
“It is a fine spot for contemplation.” Emmrich’s voice was one of few he was always glad to hear. It was unusual enough that he gave himself a moment to be calm, to breathe, and the company seemed a fine reward. “I do hope I’m not interrupting.”
