Straight up honesty, I’m not a writer that will post on a regular basis anymore. Real life interferes too much the older you get with more bills to pay.
I used to write under different names before on multiple sites, with some pretty lengthy stories. I made the switch to AO3 finally and abandoned my other profiles. Mainly this was because I had quite a few comments that implied that the readers had a right to demand when and what I posted and to call me names while doing it. That is not the point of fandom for me. While I fully accept and respect constructive criticism and even comments about whether you liked or disliked how I twisted the story, I do not appreciate any comments that call me names or are just cruel and hostile. Which is why I moved to AO3, because it lets me delete comments like that before they become something I have to look at every time I try to write a story. Because I never want to abandon stories or a profile again because of cruel comments I can’t get away from. That’s not fair to me or the people reading them.
I am also becoming way more jaded as I age. Which means that I fully believe in cutting things out that do not contribute to my health and happiness. So, for as long as AO3 contributes to my happiness, I’ll be contributing with comments and stories.
