Summary
Under the watchful eye of President Nikiforov, the small Baltic country of Galkechnia has made a fortune selling invasive military technology. Then, on a nearly bloodless morning, Nikiforov’s reign comes to an abrupt end. But revolution gives way to bureaucracy. A war crimes trial exposes national traumas, and a messy, prolonged regime change forces personal secrets out of hiding. As the trial falters, and a vacuum of power expands, eight citizens must decide for themselves what the future of their country holds.
Told across a decade via interconnecting narratives, from Karina, estranged daughter of the dictator seeking to free her family from its bloodied name, to Max, an agender would-be political assassin who must weigh vengeance against the opportunity for a new life, and Dounia, an Afro-Russian expat politician whose hunger for power previously denied to her tests her legacy, DACHA is a speculative drama about tyranny, family, and moral compromise.
(BIG content warnings for transphobia, homophobia, war, and stupid convoluted politics that I think anyone who actually cares about international relations or political theory would have a hard time reading without cringing to death. )
