By sunset, Arthur has been bitten twice, three market stalls are on fire, and half the kingdom believes Merlin and Mordred are secretly courting.
The worst part is that Merlin keeps insisting they are absolutely not together.

This is just a glimpse of what it’ll be like when he returns to the Workshop, he realizes with a rapid onset of exhaustion: faces perking up to see if there’s some new kind of recognition in his eyes, hopeful little questions of whether or not the experiment was a success and if whoever he is now has finally given way to make room for the human whose heart he’s inadvertently stolen.
They mean well, of that he’s fairly sure. They think they’re helping with their suggestions and all the questioning, the poking and prodding and maybe we can do this or how about we try that and maybe it’s his fault, really, for not being more receptive to it. Maybe it’s his fault.
Even like this, born anew, the owner of this ergo fails to meet expectations.
