Usually, it’s simple. Eddie and Buck have been through some things, and that messes with a guy — makes you get stuck in patterns that aren’t good, makes it hard to realize it’s happening. But Eddie and Buck, they know each other. They can see the signs. So they make sure the other has what they need to be okay. If that means pushing some buttons? Well, at least it’s effective.
Buck is not okay. So Eddie does what they do. He pushes those buttons.

“I’m meeting someone who works here,” the guy says. There’s something shifty and irritable about him. Andrew taps an origami frog so that it jumps across the counter in the guy’s direction, just to see if the guy will spook. He doesn’t.
“I work here,” Andrew says. He sits back in his chair, crossing his arms in a way that makes his T-shirt strain across his biceps. The combination is not necessarily suggestive — that’s not Andrew’s style. If this handsome ragamuffin takes it as an opportunity to get blown in the back room, that’s his own business.

“What are the chances I can sneak into the Foxhole afterward without interacting with anyone?” Neil asks.
Renee huffs a quiet laugh, and Andrew shakes his head solemnly.
“You never smoke with them,” Andrew says. There’s an ever-present skunky scent that permeates the Foxhole, discouraging renters with an aversion to weed. Neil has never shown active disdain for his housemates’ shared habit, but he refuses to partake. “They are desperate to see you stoned — even if it’s just anesthesia.”

A year after Neil moves into the Foxhole — a rundown off-campus house that nine stoners call home — he thinks he might have found a place made for staying. Unbeknownst to him, "staying" would include dental cleanings, and dental cleanings would lead to something worse than anything he's faced in a life on the run: getting his wisdom teeth removed.

When Eddie's sisters were young, their favorite game was what they called "Karaoke Dance Party." Eddie didn't mind it, because there wasn't much setup involved — just a CD in the player and swallowed pride. Adriana and Sophia were shameless, using anything they could find as a microphone or a guitar or a saxophone. It would only end when their mother complained about the noise. On rare occasions, she'd join them. Eddie had loved seeing her like that: loose, agreeable, a breezy smile on her normally stern face.
Eddie can’t remember what it felt like to dance that freely. It’s hard to imagine that he could. Maybe that’s how his mother felt too, all those times she came downstairs and didn’t join them. And every time she did, she proved herself wrong.
Do something frivolous. Something fun. Something that expresses pure joy.
Eddie wants to prove himself wrong, too.

Neil doesn’t really mind the whole kissing booth thing. The costume could be worse — the fuzzy-eared headband doesn’t pinch his head, and the tight spandex bunny suit Allison got him covers his torso and arms, even if it leaves his legs completely exposed. Also, Neil likes kissing. Especially with Andrew. But in general, Neil likes the mindlessness of it — the closeness.
