Chapter 1: Jeon Jungkook

Chapter Text

“Rot in hell! Don’t ever come near Jungkook again!” Yoongi demanded before pulling the trigger. There was a loud bang in the bedroom, and Jungkook buried his head in his knees further while letting out a whimper. His body is shaking like a small leaf in the wind as streams of tears flow down his face. Kim Namjoon, the head of security and the leader’s most trusted advisor, orders his men to dispose of the body and all traces. Once Yoongi knows that he has it under control, he immediately dashes over to his younger brother. He pulls the younger into his arms and brushes his hair with his bloody knuckles while whispering reassuring words in his ear.

“I’m so sorry, Jungkook.” He apologized sadly. “I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you again.” The man he shot was Jungkook’s 32nd so-called bodyguard in his eighteen years. Because of the dangerous ‘work’ the Min family are involved in, Jungkook needed a bodyguard since he was seven when Yoongi’s father adopted him. All but one betrayed, played, and hurt him in almost every way possible. They beat him, verbally abused him, and raped him. Yoongi, Namjoon, Seokjin, Hoseok, Jimin, and Jungkook - oh, poor, innocent Jungkook - couldn’t understand why he was always a target.

Some were spies from other gangs while some were just plain sadistic and evil. There were some who couldn’t do their job properly and resorted to these horrid tactics to keep Jungkook’s mouth shut to prevent them from getting fired. However, no matter how different each man was, they all agreed on one thing: Jeon Jungkook was pretty and pure which makes him an easy target because he always tries to see the best in others. Not only that, but he’s also the leader’s stepson of the biggest gang of South Korea, Bangtan.

One might think that after all the events he went through even before becoming part of the Min, he would be vengeful, angry, and impulsive. Instead, Jungkook’s heart has no room for hatred. He’s too kind. He would feel bad for killing a useless fly. This isn’t always good though; this leads him to blaming himself and always thinking he deserves it when he truly doesn’t. The others try to tell him that it isn’t, but their reasons never swayed his thoughts.

“H-Hyung.” Jungkook whined brokenly. “Why?” Yoongi only shushes him and brushes his hair. At that moment, Park Jimin, Jungkook’s personal medic and best friend, barges in the room. When his eyes land on Jungkook, he doesn’t hesitate to rush over and embrace him as well. Sejin, Yoongi’s and Jungkook’s father as well as the leader of Bangtan, assigned Jimin to be Jungkook’s personal medic because of his parents. His parents were best friends with him like Jimin and Jungkook. They were known for their incredible medical skill which was passed on to their son, so Sejin had no doubts that Jimin wouldn’t betray Jungkook. Also, Jimin was Jungkook’s friend from the moment he stepped into the mansion.

After the hug, Jimin starts to briefly inspect the younger’s body for any injuries. “What happened? Are you hurt anywhere?” He asked worriedly. Jungkook lifts his head from Yoongi’s chest and wipes his tears.

“No H-Hyung. He only pinned me on the b-bed.” He answered. Jimin nods and takes a look at Jungkook’s wrists. He frowns when he notices that Jungkook’s belt was unbuckled.

“I know you don’t want to talk about it, but did he-.” Jimin started only to be cut off by Jungkook quickly.

“No, he didn’t. Yoongi-Hyung came in before he- yeah.” Jungkook lowers his head in shame as he couldn’t finish his sentence. “He didn’t touch down t-there.” He slightly winces when he hears Yoongi growl.

“Oh Jungkookie.” Jimin said sadly. Jungkook tried to keep the tears at bay when Jimin lifted up his shirt. No matter how many times this happens, he always feels helpless, embarrassed, and confused. Why him? Jimin and Yoongi help the poor boy up. They wrapped one arm around his waist to keep him steady. “I need to take you to the infirmary to disinfect those bites.” Jimin explained. He glances at Yoongi to see if he is coming along.

“I need to discuss this with Namjoonie. You go ahead.” Yoongi said. Jimin nods understanding. Yoongi ruffles Jungkook’s hair, “I’ll be back, Kid. You’re safe now.” He didn’t receive an answer, but that’s understandable. The event shakes Jungkook up every single time. “Thank you, Jimin.” Jimin blushes and takes his cue to leave.

When Jungkook was no longer in sight, Yoongi kicked the closest thing to him. “God fucking damn it!” He cursed angrily. “Every single time!”

“The men have completed the task.” Namjoon updated on the situation after Yoongi’s outburst and when he thought he was calm enough. Jung Hoseok, Yoongi’s bodyguard, decides to make his entrance at that moment.

“Fucking bastards.” He muttered under his breath. “Your men cleared everything, so nobody suspects a thing?”

“I’ve been doing this for a couple years now, Hoseok-Hyung. Do you think I’m incompetent?” Namjoon responded.

“Some people are.” Hoseok pointed out and glared at him. Namjoon understands that he’s not angry at him, but at the disgusting piece of shit who brought pain to their Jungkookie. Hoseok just directed his anger at him. Hoseok releases a heavy sigh. “Jungkook is going to need a new bodyguard again.”

“Got anybody in mind, Namjoon?” Yoongi asked. Namjoon shrugs and scratches the back of his head.

“Yeah, one.” He answered.

“Well? What is he like? Can we trust him?” Yoongi continued questioning. Nobody blames him for being paranoid and having trust issues. Even if Jungkook and Yoongi aren’t brothers by blood, Jungkook is his number one priority. He cares and loves his brother so much. Only Jungkook can break the strong and serious facade. He has such a soft spot for him. Actually, Jungkook has wiggled his way through everyone’s hearts. It makes him wonder how anyone could hurt him, but then again, in his workfield, he deals with the most insane and dangerous people. Still, it surprises him every time they hurt the little one.

They only want the best for him, but unfortunately, it isn’t enough especially if it keeps resulting like this. “I think he’s the best option we have.” Namjoon spoke. “He’s incredibly skilled and is my friend from high school. He was a prodigy at the training academy. The name is Kim Taehyung, age 20, and is currently looking for an occupation.”

“No, he’s too young.” Yoongi denied. “I don’t care how skilled the brat is.”

“Actually,” Hoseok said. “I think we should try it. He’s Namjoon’s friend which brings us a little reassurance. Yes, he may be young, but I think Jungkook needs someone around his age.”

“He has Jimin.” Yoongi simply stated.

“Who is also twenty years old. Besides, I think Jungkook has had enough of guys who are over thirty. We know they can’t be trusted anymore.” Namjoon suggested. Yoongi stays silent to think for a while. Would he prefer another thirty - possibly older - man who could potentially hurt Jungkook, or the twenty-year-old kid who could be his friend? Well, when he puts it like that, it’s easy to choose.

Yoongi sighs, “Fine. Would he accept the offer?”

“I’m not too sure. He’s a strange one, and I’m not sure he wants to be involved in gang activities.” Namjoon honestly said.

“Do what you need to. I’ll give you two days, and I will be keeping an eye on him if he does accept.” Yoongi ordered. With that said, the trio walks out of the room and separates to do their own business. Yoongi let Hoseok retire for the night as he heads towards the infirmary on the first floor. He’s a little nervous to walk in because he doesn’t want to see Jungkook broken again.

Bangtan owns many buildings and corporations in South Korea, but the main one where the guys are is in Seoul. Yoongi takes in a deep breath before entering the medical room. He’s relieved to see Jungkook asleep on one of the beds. Jimin is standing next to him while scribbling shit down for Jungkook’s very long medical record. Yoongi trails over and pulls out a seat. He notices the IV attached to Jungkook’s wrist and gives Jimin a questioning look.

Jimin gives him a small smile and says it’s because Jungkook probably dehydrated himself from all the crying. Yoongi hums and gazes at Jungkook’s features. His peaceful face contrasts how he was before, but the tear tracks show the sadness and suffering. The eyebags indicate his exhaustion. “What are the injuries?” Yoongi asked.

“Thankfully, it’s not too bad. He only has a few bite marks and bruises on his chest and abdomen.” Jimin said. “Maybe the bruises were obtained from fighting back?” He hoped but knew that would be unlikely.

“Nah, you know he doesn’t like hurting others no matter how psychotic they are.” Yoongi replied. Jimin can only frown, and the two watch over Jungkook for the night. Sometimes, Yoongi blames himself for always being away and not being able to protect him, so the least he can do now is to stay by his brother’s side.

Jungkook wakes up the next morning feeling more frightened than usual, but Jimin, Yoongi, Hoseok, and Seokjin spend the day with him. Sejin cleared their schedules, so they’re free to do whatever. The instance Seokjin sees his “little baby,” he races over and envelopes him in a tight hug. Seokjin is the chef and possesses some medical skills. Of course, he’s not a professional like Jimin, but he can perform small surgeries if needed. “Aigoo! My baby, are you okay!?” He asked.

Jungkook laughs a little and rolls his eyes. “Yes, I’m fine, Eomma.” He responded with a bratty tone. Seokjin finally releases him from his suffocating embrace.

“Yah, I’m worried about you! I immediately came over here when Namjoon told me what happened. You should be grateful, Brat!” He, the other four, and Sejin were the only ones who knew about the bodyguard situation. The less people who know about Jungkook being vulnerable the better.

“The worrying will only give you gray hairs, old man.” Jungkook teased. “Also, Namjoon-Hyung told you, huh?” He wiggles his eyebrows up and down.

“And who is giving me these gray hairs?” Seokjin reminded him while trying to change the subject away from Namjoon.

“I wonder who sometimes too.” Jungkook smirked.

“You’re such a brat.”

“You love me though.”

“You’re damn lucky I do. Otherwise, you would be the main course for today’s dinner.” Seokjin threatened.

“Yoongi-Hyung would save me though.”

“Yes, but please let’s not go there, Kookie.” Yoongi said and shook his head at the two’s nonsense and endless bickering. He’s secretly happy to see Jungkook being his bubbly and bratty self, but he knows Jungkook is trying to act normal to forget last night’s events. Jimin notices too when he joins in the conversation.

“Hyung, should you be walking? Let me help you.” He comes over to Seokjin to “help” the man walk which only results in Seokjin playfully hitting him.

“Yah, the disrespect!” The boys laugh it off and head towards the breakfast room. They chatted casually away and ate the delicious food. If anyone were to walk in at this moment, they would not expect the boys to be involved in mafia activities. Jungkook takes his final sip of his milk before standing up.

The others stop their chatter and stare at him as if they thought he was going to do something stupid. Jungkook gives them a confused expression. “What?” He asked.

“Where are you going?” Yoongi asked back with his eyebrows furrowed. Jungkook gulps nervously and starts to fidget, a habit he has when he’s shy, nervous, or anxious. Biting his lips is more of an anxious habit.

“T-to get ready...for work?” He responded hesitantly, afraid to say something wrong. They all give him a “are you serious” look.

“You’re not going to work today.” Seokjin and Yoongi affirmed simultaneously. Jimin crosses his arms and nods his head, agreeing.

“What? Why?” Jungkook asked exasperated. How could he not see this coming?

“Kookie, are you serious?” Yoongi argued, clearly done with the conversation. No way in hell is he letting him go to the company today. He rises from his seat and marches over to Jungkook. His eyes never left his brother’s. “First of all, you don’t have a bodyguard. Secondly, you need at least a day to heal from last night.”

“I wasn’t injured badly.” Jungkook said. His eyes leave the intimidating gaze and trail to the floor. Yoongi sees his uneasiness and pulls him into a hug.
“You know that’s not what I meant. I’m worried about your mental health, Kookie.” He whispered gently.

“M’kay.” Jungkook mumbled defeatedly. He knows he can never win an argument against his brother especially if the rest of his friends are with Yoongi. He hates being terrified and weak, but it seems like the universe is always out to get him. He understands that his mental state was affected by last night’s events, but he doesn’t want to burden his hyungs anymore. They’ve done so much for him which is why he wants to pretend nothing happened, but they usually see through every act.

Jungkook wants to forget everything that has happened to him, but it’s impossible. It doesn’t matter how hard he tries; it really doesn’t. In the end, the trauma and memories will always haunt him when he is awake or in his dreams. He’ll never live in peace knowing he can’t really trust anyone. He hates how he has to look behind him to ensure himself that no one is there, or how he flinches whenever someone surprises him with affection.

God, he despises how sensitive he is. He cries for every little thing. Well, he calls it sensitivity, but the others argue that it’s not. They said he has every reason to because of what he has been through. “Shit.” Jungkook quietly curses too himself when he feels the tears wetting his eyes. He takes deep breaths and tries to hold his emotions in.

“Don’t cuss, Jungkookie.” Yoongi soothed. “You’re too innocent to say those words.” Jimin and Seokjin travel over and wrap their arms around Jungkook. As the trio give their baby a group hug, they do their best to shield him from the cruel world even if it is for a little while.

“It’s okay to cry. Let it out.” Seokjin comforted, taking note of Jungkook’s struggle to keep it all inside. Jungkook does his best, but he loses the battle and begins to sob. It breaks his hyungs’ hearts. It hurts to see him so sad. It hurts them so much to the point where they promised to not kill any bugs and to only catch them and release them into nature if he is near. Yoongi hates the unnecessary work that goes into it when it would save so much time if he just kills them, but he will do anything for Jungkook.

They know they can only do so much for him. They know during these times that they can only hug him and give him as much love as possible. They won’t say, “everything will be okay” because they know that they can’t promise him that especially in their line of work. They know during these times that Jungkook is not only fighting the tears, fears, and every emotion possible, but he’s also fighting the memories that rush in his head at a thousand kilometers per second. They know during these times that Jungkook would grip and hold them tighter and cry harder if the incident affected him more than usual which is almost all the time. Thankfully, they were able to prevent this one from going too far.

“You’re so strong, Kookie. Hyungs are so proud of you.” Jimin whispered reassuringly, not expecting a response. To his surprise, Jungkook did, but he wished he didn’t. “I-I thought I could trust him. He was s-so nice.” Jungkook confessed brokenly. This causes Jimin to frown and to squeeze him tighter.

“It was an act like the other ones.” They couldn’t understand how and why Jungkook would give his bodyguards a chance. He’s gone through more than thirty, yet he keeps trying because he wants to believe that they’re different. “This time will be different.” He said, but they weren’t. There was one who was and stayed with him for thirteen months which was the longest period. Unfortunately, an accident happened, and he could no longer perform his duty nor remain in combat.

Of course, it was hard for Jungkook to let him go, but he understood nonetheless. He visits him once in a while, so their friendship will continue to thrive. Although the guard kindly said he didn’t need to do so because their friendship will be with him until he dies, Jungkook insisted he would visit. There’s no harm in seeing an old friend anyways.

The guys pull away when Jungkook finally calms down. He dries the mess on his face then looks at his friends with red, puffy eyes. He smiles and shows his bunny teeth that the guys are absolutely weak for. They never stop doting how adorable he is and how he completely resembles one. “Thanks, Hyungs.” He spoke.

They present him their own sunshine and cheeky grins. Jungkook wonders how he was blessed with the best brothers in the world. They accepted all his beauties and flaws. Just everything. “Your father cleared our schedules, so what do you want to do?” Jimin mentioned. Jungkook thinks about it while tapping his finger against his chin. The boys brace themselves for the same answer he consistently gives. It’s not awful; they’re not the best at it, but it’s fun and hilarious because of that.

“Badminton?” Jungkook shyly suggested despite the fact that his hyungs would agree nonetheless. Who could refuse their sweet, little bunny?

“Let’s get changed.” Seokjin said. Suddenly, Jimin smirks along with Jungkook. Jimin grabs his hand, and they race upstairs excitedly.

“Old vs young!” The two shouted. The older two, who haven’t climbed up one step yet, groan. They already predicted their defeat. Usually, Seokjin would fight back, shouting at them to not get overconfident or to not underestimate them, but at this point, he knows it is their loss.

“The things we do for him.” Yoongi grumbled. “Jungkook-ah! Do you want Hoseok to participate too!?” Not even thirty seconds later, Jungkook is in front of him, nodding eagerly.

“If he’s not busy, then yes!” He exclaimed energetically. “Can Namjoonie-Hyung play too?”

“Joonie is unfortunately away right now.” Yoongi said. He doesn’t miss the small pout the younger displays, but he stays silent anyways. He couldn’t help but feel sorry for Jungkook. He doesn’t have lots of friends inside and outside Bangtan. Because he’s the son of the leader, everyone is too afraid to talk to him. His father is gentle, but when it comes to work, he’s like a nightmare waiting under your bed.

Then, they hear Jimin calling for him too and saying that he’ll become older the more he spends time with them. This somehow brings more energy to the kid as he starts running up the stairs like it’s nothing to him. Seokjin and Yoongi couldn’t help but shake their heads while smiling when they heard a thump and a “I’m fine!” indicating the clumsy bunny’s fall.
