Work Text:

It's quite evident that Sylvie's rage is at it's peak at this point. She has enough reason to punish her abuser and Loki understands that.

His own voice saying "TRUST MY RAGE" echoes in his ears, when he notices a familiar glow in sylvie's eyes. It was her anger, fueled by years of pain and suffering. He sees how it blinds her from the obvious deception right infront her eyes.

He knows that her rage is powerful. He is aware of the fact that she could kill him in an impulsive moment and die of regret in the very next. He trusts her rage. He is afraid of her, but that doesn't stop him anyway.

He materialises right infront of her, his neck touching her blade for a split second, making a small cut.

SHE STOPS.

My god, if something can calm a raging sylvie, it is the possibility of Loki's death by her own blade.

She takes a step back, and freezes in her position, hands still on the hilt of her sword, placed against his neck, shaking slightly, but still immobile...bcoz how could she hurt HIM, someone who didn't hesitate to put his neck under her blade just to make a point!

Loki immediately bares himself of all weapons to earn her trust and looking straight into eyes, he repeats- "sylvie, stop" in a pleading tone.

Tears start running down her cheeks, when she realises the various outcomes of that one impulsive moment. She hates herself, and she hates him for being so damn reckless. The possibility of lethally hurting him boggles her mind, makes her question her beliefs, her feelings, something she didn't quite understand yet....all until he gently touches her shoulders and begins to speak.

Words could be deceiving but eyes can't. And just like that, he poured his heart out to her, with unmistakable honesty in his eyes.

He said he understood her. But does he? Can he? No. No one can understand what it felt like living around death and destruction for ages, to survive off scraps, to fight for shelter or to kill as self-defense. He might think he knows her, but he is not her. He hasn't lived her life.

She doesn't doubt his intentions anymore, but her lifelong trauma doesn't let her see the bigger picture, and that's why she makes a choice. Despite holding a sword against his throat, she decided to send him away with a kiss...to a place that she believes would be safer.

It was a goodbye, maybe forever. She doesn't know if he'll ever want to see her again. After all, she did interrupt their first intimate moment. That would stay with him.
