Glittering Pectorals

Summary:

“Glitter attack. The other victim in said attack offered some clothes to replace the glitterfied ones. Insisted on it as the glitter apparently came from her apartment.”

“Ah so those rippling pectorals aren’t just being shown off on purpose?”

Dick choked on his water as Jason said that, glaring at his brother’s glee. Jason’s laughter filled the room while Dick recovered.

Work Text:

Dick didn’t know what he was expecting to happen, but being assaulted with glitter wasn’t it.

The woman in front of him stood stock still as gitter rained down around them. Her jaw clenched as she glared at the open window above the two of them. She took a deep breath shaking her head slightly, dislodging some glitter as she looked at the glitter around the two of them

“I am so so so sorry,” she said, quickly moving to brush some of the glitter off of him as she realized she was not the only one affected by the glitter attack. “I am truly so sorry about all of this.”

“There’s no need to apologize “

“No there is. It came from my apartment. Someone thought it’d be funny to play a prank on me and unluckily for you, you got caught in the crossfires. You’re going to have glitter stuck for the rest of the day in those,” she looked at him, “I should have some things that will fit you if you want. And I can give you a bag to take those home.”

“I wouldn’t want to take your stuff.”

“Your clothes are ruined because of me. It is the least I can do.”

“If you’re sure.”

“Positive,” she smiled at him, leading him into the building and up into her apartment.

“Make yourself comfortable. I’ll go grab the clothes and I'll be right back.”

She disappeared into a back room, her bag deposited on the couch.

Dick looked around the small apartment, taking in the fabric bolts in the corner, the decorated jewelry boxes scattered about, and the small bowls filled with assorted objects from pins to corks. Pictures in front of and on the Eiffe tower of her and some friends, a picture that looked like it had been sneakily taken and recently printed out of a blonde boy kissing another boy, pushing a guitar out of the way.

She reemerged a few minutes later, in new glitter free clothes and her arms laden with several shirts and pants. “I didn’t know what would fit best or what your style might be so I grabbed a few different options,” she told him, laying them out on the couch in front of him. “Try them on, I can make adjustments if you want or need. And I haven’t introduced myself yet. I’m Marinette.”

“Dick. Thank you. You really don’t need to do all this-”

“I insist. There’s a bathroom down the hall and first door on your right,” she replied with a smile.

The shirt fit, if not a bit tight, Marinette glancing away with a faint blush on her cheeks as he came out, handing him a bag for his glittered clothes.

“They look like they fit you well.”

“They’re great. Are these your boyfriend's?”

She looked startled for a moment by that assumption. “Boyfriend? No! No. No, I’m single. I’m a designer. I have clothes for my website and mock ups everywhere. I have a small stock too for my website. But nope. I am not dating anyone right now.”

“How much for the clothes?”

“What?”

“I’m not going to take them from you.”

“I’m not going to make you pay.”

“I’m offering.”

“And I’m refusing.”

“Please.”

“No. I have the right to refuse service and I’m refusing.”

“That’s not how it works.”

“Oh well.”

“You’re not going to be convinced otherwise are you?”

“Not in the slightest.”

“Fine. Fine you win.”

She laughed as he let out an over exaggerated sigh. “I left my keys in the bathroom-”

“Go! No need to ask my permission to get your own things,” she laughed.

Dick grinned as he pulled out some cash from his wallet, placing it on the sink counter, before pulling his keys out of his pocket, as he left the room. “Got ‘em!”

“I’m glad. I am so sorry about all of this again, truly. I hate to kick you out but I do have a meeting I need to go to but It was nice meeting you and well you know where to find me.”

“That I do.”

The pair said their goodbyes before quickly parting, the soft click of the lock behind him as the two parted was the thing that seemed to give her permission to lose her composure as Dick promptly heard a muffled ‘ REALLY PLAGG?! ’ as he started down the stairs.

Jason looked up from where he was sitting, and laughed. Not even trying to hide his amusement as Dick grabbed a glass and filled it with water.

“What the hell happened to you?”

“Really?”

Jason just shrugged. “I wouldn’t put it past you. Need I remind you about Discowing? Do not try to justify it before I catch my breath.”

Dick narrowed his eyes slightly before throwing his water on his brother, cackling as he quickly left the room, Jason not far behind, dripping wet.

Marinette smiled to herself as she spotted a familiar face, going into the small coffee shop she liked to frequent. She pulled open her purse, grabbing the cash she had found in her bathroom a week ago, holding it in her hand as she got in line behind him and tapped him on the shoulder.

“You ‘forgot’ this at my place last week,” she greeted, handing him the cash. He shook his head, trying to hand it back.

“I’m not taking your work for free.”

“Well I’m not going to take your money for something that was my fault.”

“Is there any other way I can pay you back then?”

She studied him for a second before offering a small smile.

“You could take me out for a coffee,” she suggested.

“How about a dinner later on too?” he asked.

Her smile grew as her cheeks flushed. “I think that's an acceptable repayment.”

“We’ll see after the dinner won’t we?”

“Are you trying to date me, Dick?”

“Maybe. Too obvious?”

She laughed, nudging him as the line moved.

“Not at all.”
