Never let it be said Gotham is not a true god - as loving as it is cruel, even-handed and focused with a surgeon's attention. The streets crowd with traffic as wheels squeal, rain falls, people scurry underneath umbrellas, as an entire city breathes and lives. Just, above all else.
What other favored son could Gotham have chosen? What other surrogate heart to beat alongside a hundred thousand more?
The first night Bruce Wayne pulls on a polyurethane suit and absentmindedly thinks to himself about theming the next variation, his fate is set. Gotham is fair. Above all, a first love.
