It’s been a little over 2 months since Luz got back to the human realm and started to attend school again, it was far from something she wanted to do, and she would much prefer to go to hexside. but she wanted to uphold at least a bit of the promise to her mother of staying in the human realm.
despite her mother having changed her views and was relatively supportive of Luz going between the worlds to visit her Owl family. It still made Luz feel bad for her mother whenever King opened a portal to come to get her, with his newfound titan power.
She could see the fear and worry behind her mother's kind smile. never knowing if her daughter would come home unscratched or worse.
despite it all, Luz couldn't complain, after all, she could visit the boiling isles whenever she wanted outside of school and had a piece of it with her, by having a cool basilisk sister at home, and every now and then King stayed over at her mother's house.
So it really wasn't that bad! Yet… the whispers and some giggling when she walked thru the cafeteria, she definitely could live without.
Luz put down her tray of food and slumped down, poking at the food, wishing she could have her friends with her instead of being yet again the lone weirdo.
“And then, I bounced off the huge mushroom right into the Ant queen's mouth!” a Voice could be heard from across the cafeteria, which caught’s Luz attention. “hm?”
“uhh.. yeah, right, ants that big doesn't exist, and I don't think I ever heard of talking frogs or mushroom that makes you fly”
“Yeah, what kind of weird. What fantasy world are you living in?” Another voice added.
“noo! I swear you guys it was real! I really did get transported to a different world! and The mushroom doesn't make you fly, you see, they are just made of this substance that makes them bouncy when putting pressure on and-”
“a different world?” Luz gasped slightly as she continued to watch the interaction.
“ok stop stop, she is obviously lying for attention. let's go, guys, the new girl is s complete weirdo, figures.” the girl who seemed to be the ‘leader’ of the group said laughing and that was blocking Luz’s view from the girl they had stod in front of previously.
Once they were gone, Marcy let out a deep sigh and took out her switch from her hoodie as she curled up to a ball on the bench she sat on. Making friends were going to be a lot harder than she thought.
“uhmm, Hi, Could you tell me about what you just told those girls? I couldn't help to overhear it and got curious” a girl Marcy had never seen before said with a polite but timid smile.
Marcy felt a bit discouraged to open her mouth again, afraid she would be laughed at again and would prefer to not go through that once more.
So far no one has believed her no matter how hard she tried or by bringing up the frog-vasion in California. surely they would have heard about that. but nope, everyone said they did not believe in it and it was staged or filmed for a movie.
“You wouldn't believe me either way” Marcy sighed. focusing back on her game.
“don't mind what those girls said, they are just a bunch of bullies anyway” Luz smiled and sat down on the opposite side of the table of Marcy.
“I’m Luz, by the way, Luz Noceda!” the girl extended her arm, and the kind warm smile Luz was giving her kinda reminded her of Anne. Marcy put down her Nintendo Switch and took Luz’s hand.
“Marcy Wu”
“so tell me what was that world you were talking about??” Luz asked maybe a bit too excited, could it be that maybe this Marcy person also had been to the boiling isle?
“oh uhm- I know this will be REALLY hard to believe, like trust me so far no one has believed me but ok so, me and my two best friend’s found this music box right? and when we opened it we all were transported to this land in a different world called Amphibia! I even became a Chief Ranger of the Newtopian Knight Guard there and oh my frog it was the coolest thing ever happened to me and- “
Marcy started to rant but before she could continue she was the utterly shocked face Luz was giving her and laughed nervously.
“ahh you don't believe me, do you…?” Marcy sighed.
“NO no! I mean YES I do believe you! dang, it Luz, get it together-” Luz grunted and slapped her forehead for spacing out a bit hearing what she had just heard.
“I have been to a different world too!! It's called the boiling isle and there are these REALLY cool demons and I even learned how to do magic and to become a witch!”
Marcy’s eyes widened and gasped in excitement
“no way!! really?? do you know any spells? what kind of magic is it? what kind of demons were there? and oh were there any griffins? do they have spider breath??”
“I don’t have any magic myself and they only work on the boiling isle buuuut BOOM baby, glyph magic!” Luz said and slammed down some glyphs she always carried with her on the table to show Marcy. Proud as ever of what she taught herself.
“and I'm happy to tell you, griffins, do, in fact, have spider breath”
“I knew it! oh, my frog this is so cool please tell me everything!”
“only if you tell me everything and girl I can tell this will be the start of a beautiful friendship" Luz chuckled
"And what's with that expression? Frog?"
"Oh! It's a habit for being there for months it's a bit hard to switch back" Marcy chuckled.
"Cool, I actually have the same but with "oh my titan"
"Titans huh are they there too? On the boiling isle was it?" Marcy asked putting her face in her hands propped up by her elbows more than ready to listen"
"Sorta- actually my brother is a titan slash demon, he is kinda my only way back to the demon realm at the moment"
Marcy then slammed her hands against the table hearing this.
"YOU GOT A WAY BACK?"
Luz was a bit taken back by the sudden movement.
"Uh yeah, don't you..?"
Marcy slumped down again on her seat and groaned.
"No.. things got a bit messy towards the end and well… the stones that powered the musicbox only had enough power to send me and my friends back home one last time"
said Marcy, hanging her head. She would give anything to be able to go back one last time. Preferable with Anne and Sasha.
So they could be with their found families again.
Luz noticed this might be a sensitive topic for Marcy and hoped to change the topic.
"You said you and your friends got sent there together, do you think I can meet them?" Smiled Luz.
"That will be a bit hard since they are back in California, actually- right after we got back, Me and my parents had to move away. And now I'm here" Marcy tried to hold up a smile.
At this Luz almost teared up. Not only could she not get back to the world she seems to love but also be separated from her best friends? It was so sad.
"oh I'm so sorry for asking, I didn't pry too much did I? please tell me I didn't mess up this friendship"
Marcy laughed at that and shook her head.
"it's fine! you couldn't have known and I bet you also have your share of 'trauma from being transported to a different world."
"oh tell me about it." Dead panned Luz. that was an understatement to speak at least.
"but never mind that, Hey what do you say about you and I getting out of here to play hooky?" Suggested Luz as she stood up and extended her hand.
A big smile spread on Marcy's face as she took Luz's hand.
"Do I?? Of course, I do!"
And soon enough the two had left the school and went to a nearby mall, talking and sharing all kinds of stories they had been through on the boiling isle and Amphibia.
Luz talking about all her friends and family and all adventures they've been on and pretty much overthrowing a corrupt emperor and more.
And Marcy going on long stories and fun facts about the world in amphibia not to speak of Talking about Anne and Sasha.
"Dude me too! or well Kinda- It was actually me or my body who lead the invasion in L.A. just the typical mind-controlled stuff, ya know?"
Luz spit out the drink she had been sipping on.
"That was you?? I heard and seen news about it and I can quite relate about the mind-controlled part thing" Luz laughed nervously
"Oh don't tell me you were also-"
"I… rather not talk about it"
"Fair enough! Hey, tell me more about those cool glyphs you were talking about" Marcy asked practically jumping up and down in excitement.
Luz was about to answer when her phone started to ring.
With a quick look, Luz started to panic
"Oh, crud! I need to get home, my mom is going to kill me! I was supposed to be back home 2 hours ago"
"Ah S-sure! No worries" Marcy felt a bit disappointed luz had to leave already and wanted to hang out more.
"Thank you for hanging out with me Marcy it was awesome!" Luz smiled and started to run off.
"Yeah, you too.." Marcy was about to mumble feeling already alone but before she could Luz had returned and given her a big bear hug.
"Ops almost forgot about this! It's so nice having a human friend here, thanks for hanging out with me I had a great time!"
Marcy was taken back a bit surprised but hugged her new friend back all the same.
"Yeah me too! Thanks, Luz" Marcy smiled
"But ok I got to go now, see you tomorrow!" Luz waved and ran off once more.
Marcy felt relieved and happy, she finally got a new friend, one she could relate so much about. Not only because both had gotten to whole different worlds.
But Luz seemed to love all kinds of stuff Marcy liked so it was fun and easy to talk to the girl.
And she couldn't wait to tell Anne and Sasha all about it.
Oh crap, she was actually supposed to video call with them after school ended. and that was a while ago.
Marcy hurried to grab her phone and navigated her way to the trio's group chat and hit the call button.
And soon enough Sasha picked up with Anne beside her.
"Hey mar-mar what took you so long?" Sasha smiled thru the camera and Marcy felt a surge of happiness seeing her two best friends and the good news she was about to tell them.
"Guys guys! Guess what??"
"You seem happy, what's up Marcy?" Anne asked with a grin. Happy to see the big smile on her friend's face as Marcy had seemed sad as of late.
"I made a friend! And she is so amazing and cool guys and guess what! She TO been to a different world! She even knows how to do magic and she got this found family of witches and demons and-"
"Woah woah slow down Mars, take it from the beginning" Sasha laughed amused by Marcy going on one of her info dumps
"Right right sorry- So today at lunch-'"
Marcy started to Explain to the two how she had met Luz and of their day together and both Anne and Sasha couldn't be happier for their girl hearing this. As they both had been worried for Marcy that she was going to be by herself.
So she getting a friend who was into the same stuff she was AND been thru something similar as the trio must have been a one in a million chance.
Days to weeks passed and Luz and Marcy quickly became best friends and would always hang out after school and between classes.
Both became a comfort to the other and made each other not feel as alone anymore in the Human Realm.
And they could go on for hours sharing stories or just nerd out together.
And it wasn't long before Marcy got to meet king and Vee who were visiting and with time Luz offered Marcy to come with them to meet her owl family and friends on the boiling isle over the day.
Something she definitely wouldn't pass upon.
