Just Give Me A Pillow

Summary:

Sleep is the most important thing for anyone, but a certain captain does not usually have time to get any as he normally should. So instead, he becomes rather adept at sleeping anywhere he chooses.

As long as he has a pillow.
-----
Or, five random places Kaeya had slept with a pillow, and one time he didn't need one to sleep.

Chapter 1: Klee

Chapter Text

It’s with a few too many cups of wine and some other mixes that Rosaria now watches as Kaeya yawned absentmindedly, tilting his head just slightly as if to eavesdrop in the surrounding conversations of the Angel’s Share’s patrons. This would be convincing, if not for the fact that he swayed ever so slightly and leaned too much on his wrist for It to be comfortable. Taking note, she leaned closer to the cavalry captain as she nursed her own drink with an inquisitive gaze pointed his way, lips quirking slightly and showing the most emotion Kaeya will ever see from her for the next month. “Drink one too many, Sir Kaeya?”

Scoffing, he downs his current cup to prove a point and hesitated on his last swallow as if his stomach protested anymore liquids. “I sure as hell can hold my own, Sister Rosaria.” She slaps his shoulder lightly, smiling slightly at the responding gasp of a mocked offense at her action before his head dropped slightly with an unseen weight.

“You should head home Kaeya. It wouldn’t be comfortable to sleep leaning on the bar top like that.”

Flippantly, Kaeya waved a hand but nonetheless heeded her advice and stood up, pushing his glass closer to Charles who inclined his head in acknowledgment. “Please, I can just about sleep anywhere. Give me a pillow and I can call it a night.”

There’s a derisive snort, “if you even sleep in the first place.” Pointedly, she tapped the skin under her eye and laughed inwardly as Kaeya stared for a long moment in confusion before understanding what she meant. The bags under his eyes were rather unsightly for the usually well-kept man. Nevertheless, it was entertaining to watch him grow embarrassed at the telling marks on his face. “Stop overworking yourself, or you’ll end up weighing others down,” inwardly grimacing she realized that her words were probably not as well-structured for the stubborn man who had abruptly turned away. “Kaeya-“

“Yes, yes, it was a good chat. Night, Rosaria.” He was out of the door before she could get him to come back.

Klee

Solitary confinement isn’t exactly Klee’s favorite time, not when she could be exploring about the lands of Mondstadt with the pretty flares of her bombs. It’s boring to sit in the timeout room, no matter how homey it has become with the small baubles and tools she had snuck in behind Jean’s back. There’s a window to tell her that some time has at least passed by, and as usual she had sprawled herself across the rug as sitting in the chair had begun to hurt her bottom.

It’s while she is thinking about asking miss Lisa to let Klee borrow her workshop that the doorknob jiggles and in comes Kaeya who was carrying a pillow with him. He seemed out of it, but he’s been like that for the past few weeks, and Klee was guessing it was a grown-up thing. Maybe he was imitating Jean on her bad days with the dark bags under his eyes and clumsy sway in his movements.

“Kaeya! Did Jean put you in solitary confinement too?!” that would be surprising, but maybe Jean finally found out that he’s been helping Klee hide evidence of her bombs. Oh no, was this her fault?!

A huff leaves the cavalry captain as he plopped down next to her, his hand messing her hair and pulling a small squeal as she tried to bat at his insisting hand. “Jean doesn’t know I’m here so don’t tell her, yeah? I just wanted to take a nap because I’m just a biiiiiiit sleepy.”

“Okay! But, if I’m keeping a secret then Kaeya has to do something for me too!” she felt proud that she had brought about a surprised look from the man.

“Oh ho? And who taught our little spark knight to bargain?” wiggling fingers found her sides and she screeched in laughter at the contact, body automatically coiling around the fingers as she slapped his arm repeatedly in a bid for him to stop.

“It was Lisa!” she could hear Kaeya’s breathy laughs with hers, though not loud enough to overpower it as she giggled and fell to the ground as if that would help her escape. Eventually when he ends it with another soft laugh before laying on the ground as well, his head landing on the pillow he had brought along.

There’s a small smile on the grown up’s previously tired face as he bopped her on the nose, making her wrinkle it and giggle in response. “Fine then, little knight. What do you wish from this old man?”

“Help me test out my new bombs!” she had been wanting to do this for a while, but she has not been allowed to move as far as she’d like. If she wanted to go anywhere far away she’d have to run it by Jean, which would mean that either Jean will say no or insist that she tags along. Which means more rules! That’s no fun… So! Having Kaeya with her would be very helpful without as many boring rules.

Said man looks completely amused by her request, she huffs at his indulgent smile. Klee was being serious! Of course, he looked like he knew what she was thinking already, his hand patting her head twice as he took the request. “Alright fine, you have a deal. Let me nap here and don’t tell Jean. If you keep your word, then I will bring you wherever you want to go to test your bombs.”

Great! Klee felt content with their deal, settling back down to her place on the floor, watching with interest as Kaeya sprawled out on his part of the floor, somehow sinking further into his pillow, and rolling onto his side. Hm, that looked nice. A nap would definitely make time go by fast.

Klee hums with glee as she hears no protest from Kaeya when she wiggles her way between his arms to use his torso as her own pillow. His fur cape tickling her cheek but soft to lay against, the rise and fall of his chest lulling her further into sleep. Tomorrow they’d travel to Dadaupa Gorge and test her new bombs on the monsters roaming about, and in the future they’d take more naps whenever Klee was sent to solitary confinement.

Maybe these times wouldn’t be as boring anymore.

Notes:

It was a random idea from a while back. I needed something sweet to write before returning to the angst of my longer fic. A palette cleanser if anything.
I definitely like the idea that Kaeya would now secretly go to the timeout room to nap with Klee, or at least use it as a moment to turn his brain off.
Hope you enjoyed the chapter!!!
