Work Text:
Tomura left the house of his father on a Sunday night at around 2:20 AM. He packed his bag, bringing 3 changes of clothes, his toothbrush, hairbrush and a stuffy named after his dog. He walked down his driveway, took one last look at his house and left. In the morning, he would take the first bus available to Touya’s neighborhood.
__
He’d been staying in Touya’s apartment for three days, at which point he began to doubt his plans. He was out of that miserable house, but as a scrawny 8th grader, he had virtually no way of supporting himself. He wouldn't- couldn't ask Touya for advice on getting a job or supporting himself, because yeah, Touya managed to be independent at 15, but Tomura was pretty sure Touya sold drugs. Tomura might be a runaway, but he doesn't fancy breaking the law. He needed to get a job, because despite his friends assurance, Tomura really couldn't stay here without even paying rent. Maybe, Tomura thought, he should just go home. He didn’t want to of course, he would never want to be in that place, but that didn't change the fact that he was broke and living on his friends couch. His friend, who was also just a runaway teen, who probably sold drugs.
His phone rang. Tomura picked it up without checking the caller ID. The only person who had this number was Touya, so it didn't matter anyway.
“What?” His voice came out cracked. He hadn’t drank anything since yesterday, and his voice payed the price.
“…Tomura- You… haven’t checked any news sites, have you?”
“No, I never check the news.” Tomura paused. Frowned. “…Did something happen to your hero dad, or something?”
“Fuck- No, I. Tomura, your family is dead. My-“ a pause. “My boss was reading on his phone about this really bad accident and he recognized your name.”
“What?” A scowl. His neck was itchy again. “Touya. What the fuck? I know I’m a runaway but you can’t just- you can’t joke about my Family being dead. My dad, maybe but.”
“ I’m not joking Tomura, shit- Turn on the TV“ Shuffles. A muffled voice in the background. “Channel 34.”
Silently, Tomura picked up the remote to Touya’s messed up cable TV. (He knew Dabi sold drugs for a living, but seriously? This was pathetic)
“Tomura?” Touya sounded almost worried.
“Yeah- give me a second…” Click. He flipped through the channels. 31,32,33,34.

?????????????
‘Horrible accident… 6 cars… fire… 6 human casualties, 5 from the same car… whole family but their son… survivors in intensive care…Shimura Tenko reported missing… hoping the son turns up...‘
The next day, Tomura would bring himself down to the station, and be shuffled into foster care. He would be adopted by a man named Kurogiri in a month. He wouldn’t see Dabi again for 2 years.
