Smitten

Summary:

Another sleepless night leaves Tweek reflecting back on his relationship with Craig and how he's grown to be so enchanted by the boy,

Notes:

The fic was inspired by the song Smitten by Leanna Firestone. I absolutely love this song and it’s so cute. I also want to try and make a animatic with creek to this song but let’s see how long college applications take :’)

Work Text:

Even at 3:48 in the morning, Tweek was wide awake, staring into the glow-in-the-dark stars Craig had on his ceiling. They always managed to bring him some sort of comfort, as it reminded him how everything didn’t seem that far away, as he tended to overthink it was.

They were a random gift he decided to get for Craig a couple of weeks back. Doing chores with his mom, he spotted them in the checkout line and used whatever money he had to get them. It would always be worth it, as the look of the boy he was dating would forever be priceless.

In Tweek’s option, dating was odder than it originally seemed to be. It looked so easy when he saw people on TV or couples just walking down the street. Now that he was in one, he realized how challenging dating could be.

Granted, Tweek and Craig’s relationship was something a bit more strange. The two act less like a couple and more like friends. His friends complain about their own relationships, and how their girlfriends are too needy and always desire the others' attention. That never really happened to Tweek. Maybe that’s because he actually liked Craig and enjoyed his company.

Maybe acting like friends was the better way to be in a relationship. They still hold hands and Craig calls him cheesy pet names, but Tweek likes it that way. Due to the rise in popularity of their relationship, it was hard to get sincere, sentimental moments that were meant for no one besides Tweek and Craig. Yet, they still managed, and those moments meant the world to them both.

Turning over, Tweek cuddled deeper into Craig's chest, hoping the warmth of the other boy would bring him to sleep. It was working, to an extent, as being this close to Craig reminded him how happy Craig had made him since they began to date.

The memory Tweek would say that really defined his feelings for the other was about a week into the two dating. They were still in a weird awkward phase, as neither of them really knew what to do in a situation such as theirs.

That day so happened to be a Friday, and what Tweek had learned quickly was that Fridays were the day after new Red Racer episodes came out. In an attempt to converse with Craig, Tweek had brought up the question of what Craig thought of the new episode.

That simple question was enough for the usually stoic boy to have the biggest smile he had ever seen from the other, showing teeth and all. Tweek was left starstruck, as he could only think how the smile on Craig's face made him look more beautiful than Tweek had ever seen him before.

Noticing Tweek staring, Craig’s smile suddenly faded. He covered his mouth and mumbled apologies about his crooked teeth through his sleeve. It was funny how the roles felt reversed in a way where Craig was the one feeling insecure.

In response, Tweek grabbed Craig's arm and pulled it from his mouth. Confused as to what was going on, Tweek gave a sincere smile and told Craig I like your smile just the way it is; leaving the two to become gushy piles of fluff and smitten for one another.

As sleep began to approach, a nasally grumble could be heard in the once-quiet room. Tweek untangled himself from Craig to inspect where the noise was coming from, hoping no one had snuck into the room, just to realize it was Craig snoring with his mouth wide open.

To anyone else, the noise would be graining, especially to someone who is in desperate need of sleep; and maybe one day, if they got old and married, it would get on Tweek's nerves.  But hearing the boy beside him snore for the first time, and his face being perfectly lit by the moonlight, Tweek couldn’t have any other thought besides cute.

He stared in awe longer than he probably should, just listening to the boy beside him snore without a care in the world. Tweek didn’t know what allured him to the sound but it brought him a sense of comfort; that Craig was able to sleep in profound peace with Tweek by his side.

Looking out into the window, Tweek began to watch over some of the stars and constellations that he had heard Craig ramble about more times than he could probably count. The night became even more special to him when he found his favorite star, Betelgeuse, from the window.

Seeing the reddish star made his heart feel full, reminding him of their first kiss. The two had snuck out after they were tucked into bed to stargaze at Starks Pond. It had taken Tweek a bit to convince him to sneak out, but he could never go against Craig, especially when he lit up at the idea of stargazing.

Craig had brought a blanket for the two of them to lay on, while Tweek surprised him with some leftover pastries from the coffee shop. Pointing out all the different constellations and stars and the meanings behind them.

Betelgeuse was luckily visible that night, and Craig was explaining how the star translated to “shoulder of the giant” due to its size. His gaze eventually wandered back to Tweek, who was looking at him with such intensity.

The two unknowingly began to shuffle closer to one another until their lips pressed together. It was a sloppy, childish kiss as they were still in fourth grade, yet it was the first of many magical nights the two would experience together.

Tweek's gaze went back and forth between the star and Craig. He began to feel tired again and wanted nothing more than to go back to snuggling with his boyfriend and dream.

Before doing so, Tweek got closer to the window and closed his eyes. He thanked the star and whatever else was up there for bringing him and Craig together. He didn’t know what he did or how he did it, but he had to be doing something right to deserve the boy with the blue chullo.

Clinging then onto Craig, Tweek held him softly with a smile on his face. He felt so helplessly and hopelessly smitten for the boy in his arms.
