Work Text:

Alejandro and Noah had been dating for a while- almost four months, but hey, who was counting? Totally not Noah- and had never told any of their friends about their relationship. Sure, they were probably suspicious of them, but nobody had said any of their suspicions out loud yet.

Gods, Noah could hear Courtney say, “I told you so!” now.

“What are you thinking about, mi amor?” a voice suddenly asked, snapping Noah out of his thoughts as he turned to his concerned boyfriend.

The two were currently in Noah’s bedroom, studying for a test in their AP English class while eating sweet potato chips that Noah’s mom had brought them. However, while they studied vocabulary words, Noah had let his thoughts drift off to his relationship with his Spanish boyfriend.

“I think we should tell our friends that we’re dating,” he blurted out, immediately shutting his mouth afterwards.

Alejandro’s eyes widened, his mouth slightly agape as he stared at Noah. It had been Noah’s idea to keep their relationship under wraps, mostly because he didn’t want to deal with his friends’ teasing and judgemental people at school.

“What changed your mind, mi amor?” Alejandro asked, sitting his book down and scooting over closer to Noah, who looked like he was five seconds away from a mental breakdown.

Noah took a deep breath, squeezing Alejandro’s hand to ground himself before he spoke. “I just…think it would be best if they knew. We don’t have to tell them though, if you don’t want to.”

“Mi cielo, I would like nothing more than to show you off in front of our friends,” Alejandro admitted, bringing Noah’s hand to his lips and pressing a gentle kiss to it, smirking as Noah blushed. “But, if you are uncomfortable telling our friends, then I don’t mind keeping you as my pretty little secret.”

Noah turned his head away, staring at the wall so Alejandro couldn’t see how embarrassed he was. “We can tell them, but if they make fun of us I’m never showing my face in public ever again.”

Alejandro cackled, pulling Noah close to his chest and pressing kisses to his forehead. “Don’t be so dramatic, mi amor. I’m sure everything will be alright.”

Everything was not alright. When they told Heather, Tyler, and Lindsay, Tyler had gotten so excited he whipped his body around to hug Lindsay and tell her that she’d been right, but in the process he knocked Noah to the ground.

“Noah, are you alright?” Alejandro asked, pulling the shorter male up to his feet and holding him close by the arm.

Noah just groaned in reply, holding his head. “Why are the floors so hard..?” he muttered to himself, glaring when Heather laughed at him.

Alejandro also glared at the girl. “He could have a concussion, Heather. Seriously, must you be so childish to laugh when someone falls?”

Heather rolled her eyes in reply. “If it was anybody else, you’d be laughing along too,” she pointed out, and Alejandro went quiet at that because he knew it was the truth.

“Shit, Noah, I’m sorry!” Tyler apologized, looking over at the couple nervously. “I can walk you to the nurses office to make sure you’re not concussed or anything, because man, concussions suck .”

“What’s a concussion again?” Lindsay, ever the airhead, asked, blinking at her boyfriend, who ignored his earlier statement to explain to his girlfriend what a concussion was.

Alejandro rolled his eyes, unamused. “We’ll be going now, see you all later,” he said, before starting to lead Noah to the nurse’s office.

On the walk there, Noah let out a sigh. “Well, that could’ve gone better,” he said, a small smile on his lips. He would laugh at how ironic the whole situation was, seeing as Tyler was usually the one getting hurt, but just the thought of laughing sent a pain through Noah’s head. “I’m hacking into Tyler’s social media accounts if I end up having a concussion though.”

“His passwords are his initials and birthday,” Alejandro told him, and when he noticed Noah’s confused look, he added, “I once logged onto his account to text Lindsay for him since he was too nervous to send her a pickup line.”

“That is so unbelievably lame and in character for him.”

Alejandro shrugged. “Maybe so. He just doesn’t want to mess up with her, even though I’ve told him she won’t care how lame he is. He’s just sensitive, I suppose.”

Noah just hummed, dealing with too much head pain to have a proper conversation anymore. Instead he just let Alejandro lead him to the nurse’s office, where he found out he had a mild concussion from bouncing his skull off the school’s linoleum floor (he was definitely hacking into Tyler’s social media account).

After he had been checked out, Noah was sent home early, and while waiting near the office for his mom to pick him up, Noah bumped into his friends, Owen, Izzy, Eva, Courtney, and Gwen.

“Shouldn’t you be in class right now?” Eva asked, confused as to why Noah was out here and not in the library working on his college math class.

“I should, but I’m concussed,” Noah answered, watching as his friends’ faces grew concerned.

Gwen was the first to speak. “What happened? Dodgeball again?”

Noah groaned, remembering when Owen had accidentally given him a concussion last year during dodgeball. Owen’s aim apparently sucked, as Noah was on the bleachers when it happened.

“I swear I didn’t give him another concussion!” Owen promised, turning to Gwen. “It was one time, and I apologized like, twenty times!”

“It wasn’t a dodgeball this time. It was Tyler being himself,” Noah told them, and the group collectively said, “oh.”

They were a little too in sync.

“Mi amor, I got your backpack-“ Alejandro said, approaching the group. He paused as he looked over everybody, not noticing how Courtney’s eyes had widened.

“Amor?” she asked, before it clicked. “Are you two dating?!”

Noah face-palmed as Alejandro grimaced, and the group erupted into chatter and yelling.

“Woah, when did this happen?” Three months and six days ago, Gwen.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Because you can’t keep a secret, Owen.

“Have you two had your first date?” Yes, yes we have Izzy, and our first date was not running away from the government.

“Does this mean you’ll come with us to workout?” Never in a million years, Eva.

Courtney’s question made Noah giggle. “Do you always call him nicknames in Spanish?”

“Of course I do. It’s so funny watching him blush,” Alejandro answered, and if Noah was sure moving wouldn’t make him pass out, he would’ve punched the other male in the arm. Instead he settled on shooting him a glare.

“Shut the hell up and give me my bag,” he demanded, snatching the bag out of Alejandro’s hands when it was in reach.

So demanding..” Alejandro mumbled, causing Courtney and Gwen to giggle at the two.

“Is your mom picking you up?” Owen asked, moving to stand beside his little buddy.

Noah nodded, resting his head against the cool wall behind him. “She should be here in a few minutes. Hopefully she gets here before I throw up.”

Owen nervously laughed, unable to tell if Noah was joking or not.

“Please don’t throw up near us,” Eva said, looking worryingly at the brainiac teen.

“Trying my best not to, iron woman.”

After a few minutes of chatting, Gwen and Courtney walked off to their next class, not wanting to be late even though it was still technically their lunch period. After they left, Eva practically dragged Izzy and Owen away to their gym class, leaving Alejandro and Noah to sit in silence.

“…so, confessing didn’t go too well,” Alejandro started quietly, earning himself a smack on the chest.

“You think? I’m fucking concussed and I feel like I’m going to pass out the minute I leave this building.”

“I could leave school too to make sure you rest,” suggested the Spanish teen, but Noah shook his head, instantly regretting it.

Wincing, he told Alejandro, “just stay here. You have to take history notes for me anyways.”

Alejandro smiled, pressing a kiss to Noah’s forehead. “Of course, mi amor. Although I do believe you already know the content.”

“Don’t care. Come by my house after school and read it to me.”

“And what will I get from this?” Alejandro asked, smirking at the shorter boy.

“You will get my undying love and affection. Isn’t that enough for you?”

“Add a kiss and we’ll have a deal.”

Noah huffed, mumbling something like, “ stupid slimy eel,” before he agreed.

“Perfecto. See you later, Noah.” With one last kiss, Alejandro stood up and began walking to class, waving at Noah’s approaching mom as he went.

“I’m holding you to it,” Noah said, before allowing his mom to help him stand and lead him out of the school doors.

Later on, Alejandro was reading about The  Renaissance while Noah snoozed on his bed, his head resting on the taller’s lap. It was domestic and peaceful and overall perfect, unlike their confessions to their friends.

Next time they confessed something to those weirdos, Noah was wearing a safety helmet.
