"Commander, we have gotten most of the enemies taken care of. The remaining soldiers are focused in lower west sections of the kingdom."

Aster, my second in command, informed me. I turn to look westward to evaluate the damage there. Buildings are a flame. Suddenly, one of the enemy soldiers yells Kiter, and they all retreat. I'll have to investigate what that means later. Right now, we need to clean up the houses.

I was helping the Ingermens assess their damage when two guards told me I was needed at my home. I make it to my house and see Valka out front crying with no sign of Hiccup; he should be here. Gobber didn't need help, so where is he? I ran to Valka, calling her name. The second I get there, she embraces me.

"Valka wants wrong. Where is Hiccup?" she doesn't look at me and keeps crying into my chest. It's one of the soldiers that delivers the news I never wanted to hear.

"Sir, I'm sorry for your loss, but they took your son. We tried to get him back".

"Okay, please make sure everyone else is here." my tears are barely held back now. Once the soldiers go to do their task, I lead Val to a bench, and we stay there for a while, holding each other and crying.

No one else was taken, only my son.

That was one year ago. We thought we would get a ransom or something, but nothing happened. We knew they were planning something we found out when investigating a murder.
