Work Text:
Under his protection,
under his name,
she finally could breathe again,
could finally start trying to live again.
She knew what her mother had done,
knew how the family worked.
It had been her job to bring him in,
to lure him in,
the savior of the wizarding world,
the boy her brother had befriended.
None of it had been an accident,
not their mother making sure he overheard her,
not Ron being Ron...
no, none of it had been an accident,
save for the tiny start of fluttering in her heart,
save for her actually developing a crush on him.
She tried to make it go away.
She'd tried to fall in love with someone else,
anything to spare him what she knew would happen.
Her mother's sights turned on another,
a muggle-born girl,
one that shouldn't have been that powerful.
Using Ron to pull her in,
Ginny watched her stirring the potions she added to their meals,
knew the incantations that would bring them together.
She knew the same ones would be used against Harry,
that if she didn't do something,
if she didn't...
Then...
he was gone.
Left with her brother,
with Hermione.
Free from the potions,
she hoped,
prayed,
but when the battle started,
when the world started shattering around them,
she could see the glow of pink in Hermione's eyes,
see her throwing herself at Ron.
Ginny knew Ron had kept her dosed,
had kept her in love with him,
and her heart started to break,
started to shatter, knowing Harry would be next.
The Dark Lord stood between them,
seeming to have won,
seeming to have conquered all.
Ginny could see Harry's chest move,
could see his eyes open,
bright green,
untainted green,
and then...
then it was finally,
truly, over.
His hand in hers,
a whispered promise in her ear,
a protection that an ancient name offered.
Ginny felt the hair on her neck rise,
could feel something in her heart shift.
A Peverell charm,
one that overrode everything her mother had tried,
an ancient magic,
one touched,
possibly created,
by Death himself.
Ginny's heart started pounding,
her lips meeting Harry's,
the war won,
the world won,
her heart free to truly love him,
to be his by his choice and no one else's.
