Chapter Text

The First Bite

“Do you think this is a good idea?” I ask with a little tremor in my voice.

“Absolutely!” Jess says behind me, giving me a little push.

My friends and I thought playing truth or dare one night at a party would be a good idea. When it was my turn to go, I asked for the truth. When they asked the question, I didn’t want to answer it so I went with a dare. I didn’t think they would go through with it though.

“What’s the worst that could happen?” Alex questioned with the confidence that I don’t know what right now.

I turn back around to the house standing in front of me. It looks to be from the early 1900s. The siding is either covered in plants or on the ground in piles. The windows are all covered with wood to prevent all the light from entering the house. The roof looks to be intact but not for much longer. Give it a few more bad storms and it will come crumbling down.

I carefully make my way to the gate and check to see if it is locked. I turn the handle and it clicks open. The gate swings open with a loud creek. I take a step back towards my friends as I am now regretting not answering the question. It’s not that hard of a question. But, what 6’2” 21-year-old college student wants to say to their friends that he’s never had sex before?

“Ya know I could answer the question now. I don’t want to go in there.” I say with honesty.

“You could.” Said Alex with a chuckle

“But where’s the fun in that! We're already here, aren’t we? You’ll be fine dude.” Says Jess as she walks over to me and places a reassuring hand on my shoulder. I look into her eyes and give her a very fake smile to try and hide my fear.

I turn towards the house. I take a deep breath and start to walk up to the door. With every step, I feel a weight wash over me. It wants to slow me down. It wants me to leave. But I can’t back down now, I’m already halfway there. I push through the feeling and make my way to the porch.

I grab onto the railing to help with my balance when it falls. I jump back, trip, and fall onto my ass. I carefully get up and I wipe the dirt off my pants. I make my way up the stairs to the door without breaking anything. I turned around to see that my friends had left.

I go to walk off the porch and go look for them because I am not doing this alone when I hear a creek behind me. I whip my head around to see a tall figure with long hair behind me. I go to scream but they cover my mouth with their hand and pull me into the house and slam the door shut. The darkness consumed all the surroundings.
