Work Text:
Sam could feel that it was going to be a bad day when he woke up, dysphoria hit him like a fucking brick and he had no will to get up and start the day. Bucky could tell something was off about Sam as soon as I walked into the kitchen. It was something about his stance and his slight wheezing breath. But, Bucky decided to ignore his gut and just have a nice day with his boyfriend.
“Good morning, I made breakfast” greeted Bucky, and when all he got was a small grumble from his usually cheery boyfriend he started getting paranoid. Was it something he had done? Sam’s expression was hard to read and the groan he let out when he sat down was even more worrying.
They ate breakfast in an uncomfortable silence and Bucky was deep in thought. Had his boyfriend gotten hurt without his knowledge? Despite his questioning he got his answer shortly after when Sam let out a sharp gasp and winced in pain. He sank to the floor and grasped his ribs after another wave of pain.
“Get it off! I can’t breathe” he was panting now and Bucky was frantically trying to figure out what was going on, however when Sam pointed towards his chest it clicked. His binder.
Bucky got to work and pulled off the crying man’s shirt, before grabbing a pair of scissors and cutting two of the three binders off.
“Arms up” he ordered and pulled off the last binder. He could see the new red cuts on his chest but they did seem clean so he decided not to worry about it right now. He let Sam catch his breathe before lightly scolding him.
“You know you’re not supposed to wear more than one, we talked about this. You could have broken a rib” he says as he lightly slaps him on the back of his head.
“I know, it just didn’t feel like enough” the younger man mumbles before looking up at his partner “M’sorry”
“Don’t be, just tell me next time okay?”
“Yeah, I will”
“You seem pretty tired, do you just wanna stay home today?” Bucky is willing to stay home for his boyfriend, they can go out another day. The only confirmation he gets is a small nod and Bucky carries him up the stairs and into their bedroom.
“I’ll let you rest now, but we still gotta talk about that later” he whispers into the half asleep man’s ear and points towards the cuts on his chest. Once again Sam only nods before closing his eyes and cuddling up to Bucky.
