The Voyage Home

Summary:

It’s been a few years since Gregory first stepped foot in the Pizzaplex. Since his first night here, he managed to improve the animatronics’ lives greatly. However, there’s still a void left with the absence of one particular pirate, and it’s well past time to bring him back to his cove.

Chapter Text

As Foxy opened his eyes and put them into focus, he became alarmingly aware of his surroundings: a workshop that looked nothing at all like Parts & Service.

There seemed to be three people with varying familiarity standing in front of him.

“No way, is he working? Did we do it!?” An excited stranger asked. Foxy didn't recognize him at all.

“He's back, he's back!” Said the voice of someone more familiar, but older.

“Hold your horses, we gotta give him space.” Dave! A technician he recognized, which did make him feel a little better, but…

“Wh… what happened? Where am I!?” Foxy panicked. “Wh- why's the date all wrong?” His internal clock told him that it had advanced several years later.

“Hey, Foxy! It's okay, you're safe.” The young stranger told him.

“Wh- where be me fellow mateys? Freddy, Bonnie, n’ Chica?”

“They're doing alright! You'll get to see them tomorrow. But they'll be so happy to see you!”

“But… why… why am I here? What did ye do to me?”

“Well…” Dave stepped forward and explained, “these two young mechanics are-”

“Dad, wait!” One of them interrupted. “Your taser! It might be freaking him out.”

“Yeah,” the other one agreed, “I don't think he wants to hurt us.”

Foxy didn’t even notice he was armed with one, but he felt a bit relieved anyways as Dave agreed to put it away. “Oh, right.” As Dave handed it to his daughter, who put it away (who was she again? He could almost name her…), he was still scared and confused. Dave continued, “As I was saying, these two, Gregory and Cassie, assisted me for quite a while as we fixed you back up. They did an amazing job!”

Foxy didn’t say anything, still overtaken by fear.

“Hey,” Gregory walked over to him, “you doing alright, Foxy?”

“Um, I…” He didn't know how to reply, but his hesitance may have given away the answer. “F- fine. I be fine,” he lied.

“Well, is there anything you’d like us to do? To make you feel better?”

“Wh- what do ye want from me!?” Foxy didn’t mean to raise his voice, but his anxiety took over. “Sorry, sorry- I- I just… I haven’t the faintest idea what be happenin’... but if ye won’t hurt me I promise I’ll do whatever ye want!”

“Hey, don’t worry, buddy! Everything’s okay! We’re not gonna hurt you, all we want is to make you feel safe.”

“Then what?” What would they do once he lets his guard down? “What will ye have me do then?”

“I mean, we won’t make you do anything, but… we were planning on having you meet back up with your friends! They’d be so happy to see you, and I’m pretty sure you want that too.”

“How can I trust ye be sayin’ the truth?”

“Well, you can trust us because…” Gregory faltered. He must’ve been lying, right? “You can trust us because… we don’t want to hurt you.” Gregory seemed to hate that he couldn’t think of a better response.

“He’s telling the truth.” Dave chimed in. “We’ve worked really hard to get you back up and running. Gregory cares a lot about your friends and has been wanting to do this ever since they mentioned you, and Cassie, you remember her, right? She jumped at the opportunity and joined us right away as soon as we found out it was possible.” The little girl that he played with for only a short time, yet brought lots of joy, had grown so much…

“Cassie?” Foxy asked. “Ye’ve grown so tall…” His voice wavered. “Has it really been that long?”

She nodded, “Yeah, it’s been quite a while…”

“She’s right, I’m afraid.” Dave sighed. “I’m really sorry it took this long, what with making sure it’d be safe to start working on you, and all the trouble the repairs had. But hey, the worst is already over, and everything seems to be working perfectly! Physically speaking, at least.”

All this big, sudden storm of news was overwhelming to the poor fox. He remembered how Dave wasn’t really fond of hurting him, and how he’d occasionally have his daughter come visit to play with him, which means that he could trust what they were saying… therefore, with all of the talk of “fixing him,” along with too much time having passed, that could only mean…

“Foxy?” Dave asked.

“I was scrapped, wasn’t I?”

He replied with a solemn nod.

Walls came crashing down, and before he knew it, tears started forming in his eyes. As he realized the gravity of the situation, he couldn’t help his emotions from getting through.

Cassie walked closer and offered a hug, which Foxy gladly accepted. Dave came to join in too.

“They may have scrapped you,” Dave said, “but I promise you’re going to be okay from now on.”

It was so much for the pirate, the feelings of joy from his safety, combined with the grief of all the time he missed. “Thank you, me mateys,” he eventually said, “fer everythin’ ya did fer me.”

Gregory likely left to let the three have the room to themselves for a little while, as they all just let things settle down without saying too much. Foxy had pretty much calmed down when Gregory came back.

“Hey, Foxy, feeling okay right now?”

“I suppose… ‘Okay’ would fit.” Foxy sniffled.

As Dave and Cassie broke from the hug, Dave said, “Woo! Today's been quite the day, and we should probably get going. Foxy, we’ll shut you down for the night and-”

“No!” He cried. “I knew it, yer goin to, yer goin to, I, I…”

“Whoa, whoa, okay, sorry! I didn't think that'd freak you out so much. Again, we're not gonna hurt you. But we don't exactly have a recharge station here, and I'd prefer it if we don't have to keep you up and awake the whole night. You're fine with going into sleep mode, right?”

Foxy meekly nodded.

“Alrighty then! Goodnight, Foxy, see you tomorrow then-”

“Wait! Yer goin’ already!?”

“Yeah, we can't just stay here the entire night. You are okay with being left here yourself, right?”

“Well, yes… but I don't want to be alone, but if ye be still awake then I can't rest, but…”

“Hey, it's okay, I'll stay the night!” Gregory offered, “We can head over to the guest room. I can go to sleep first, and then when I'm asleep, it'll be safe for you to rest too. It'll be like a sleepover!”

“Would ye really do all that fer me?”

“Of course!”

Dave added, “This kid here cares so much about you and your friends, I promise you'll be in good hands.”

Foxy hesitantly agreed.

As the two left to head to the guest room, Gregory asked, “So, how're you feeling right now?”

“I… I be unsure, to be honest.”

“Well, what if I told you a story? About what I've been up to over at the Pizzaplex, so you'll get to know more about me?”

Foxy hummed and nodded.

“Alright, well, I guess it all started when I was looking for shelter, and the Pizzaplex seemed like a great place I could sneak my way into…”
