Safety.
That's the most important thing to you; safety of the place you value and inhabit, safety of the person or people you have grown to care about; and to ensure this safely, you will make sure nothing is left undone.
So when someone threatens that, threatens the means by which you've decided to go about protecting the things you love (never mind what nature that ‘threat’ is of; it endangers your whole plan, and if the person would succeed, it will spell out ruin for what you seek; never mind why the person is doing it, because the only thing you care for now is your success at saving the things you care about, regardless of anything else) -- well, that person (threat to your very purpose) has to go.
