Work Text:
Bobby Nash sighed as he took note of the friends and family gathered around to usher in the new year.
2025
A decade had gone by.
He'd nearly lost it all again this year.
He wasn't sorry to say goodbye to 2024.
2014
The fire then had wrecked his life...
And so many others.
All of a few stupid mistakes and lack of foresight (a bit of cost cutting too).
So many lives lost and ruined.
He'd lost a wife, two children and countless friends and neighbours because of it.
A decade apart and another fire had ripped through his life.
At least all he'd lost was a house in this one.
That was a lot easier to rebuild from.
So as he looked forward to the coming year recalling those that had come before, hit with that standard melancholy longing he hoped and wished for a better one from the year coming.
A lot had changed in the decade between the fires.
He'd lost his kids. Marcy....
Nothing could make that pain and hurt right
...but he had Athena, and her children in May and Harry, he had the 118 and the family built there.
He had rebuilt from the ashes before but was so glad he only had a house to rebuild in the coming year.
So here's, he thought, to 2025.
Hopefully everything would go well!
To another year of rebuilding, of living with the scars.
To looking forward, and holding those he loved dear.
