The newly opened carnival is already loud and crowded by the time they step off the first ride they tried.
“Let’s go get some churros from that food cart over there, they look really good” Alex says “and i’m hungry”
“Aren’t you always?” Elias replies, letting out a soft chuckle
While Alexander is busy picking toppings, Eli’s gaze drifts across the carnival. he spots a booth with a lot of colorful plushies, but one in particular catches his attention. It’s a huge cowboy frog, it looks so dumb…but he feels like he needs it
“Hey, Alex?” he asks, turning to the boy next to him
“hm?… thank you!” Alex replies as he takes the churros and turns to him
“can you win me that cowboy frog plushie?” Elias asks, already pouting
“anything for you..” he says, handing his boyfriend the churros “those games are rigged tho, so don’t have huge expectations…”
“it’s just throwing a ball in the right color cup… how hard can it be?” Eli says as he walks towards the booth
“they’re gonna change colors as soon as they get in the ‘right’ cup, i’m telling you”
Alex hands the guy at the booth five bucks and gets five chances to win
The first one: missed
“oh damn, go babe, you got this!” Elias tires to cheer him on
Second try: also missed
“oh you suck”
“that’s not encouraging me, babe” Alexander mutters, still concerned on the game
Third try: guess what, still a miss
“i would’ve already won it myself”
“i haven’t lost completely yet, shut up and let me focus”
Fourth try: extremely close, but guess what, missed… again
“i’m starting to lose faith”
“oh shut up”
Fifth try: nailed it
The ball lands clean in the cup and the booth lights flash
“HA! Told you I’d win you it” Alex says, grinning way too proudly
“Better late than never” Elias replies, clearly blushing.. and clearly impressed
The guy asks them which prize they want, Elias quickly points to the cowboy frog.. it looks even dumber up close
“this is so dumb, you’re lucky i love you” Alex says as Eli hugs the plushie like it’s priceless
“he’s our kid now, i’m baby trapping you” the boy said with a smug grin
They both burst into laughter as Elias pretends to attack Alex with the frog, swinging its soft limbs at his chest like it’s on a mission. Then he grabs a churro and holds it up to the frog’s mouth, slowly “feeding” it like it hasn’t eaten in days
“He’s been through a lot” Eli says seriously “Let him have this”
Alex just shakes his head, still laughing “You’re unbelievable”
They settle down on a nearby bench, still giggling as they finish off the churros
“I’m naming him… Sir Frogward!” Elias declares proudly
“He deserves better, babe” Alex says, pulling Elias closer by the shoulder
“Next time, I want you to win me that dinosaur riding a horse”
“You’re insane” Alex smirks, brushing a strand of hair from Elias’s face “But I love you”
“I love you too, thank you!” he replies, laying his head on the other boy’s shoulder
