CHRISTMAS TIME W BOYFRIENDS

Chapter 1

It was a warm, and cheerful night in the Boyfriends Dorm. There was a 11” tall tree in the corner, next to the cardboard cut out of a fireplace. The christmas tree, decked out with colorful, flashing lights and wrapped with gold tinsel. Beneath it, sat poorly wrapped presents, clearly the handiwork of a certain Prep.

Towards the cardboard fireplace, red bricks scribbled on with crayons, stood their stockings, held up by thumbtacks. It was tacky, pun intended, but it was home.

Three sat on the couch, Jock, Nerd, and Goth. A blanket was carefully sprawled over them, as snug as a dozen limbs could fit into one sofa. They snoozed softly, all of the usual tension slipping from Goth’s face. Nerd’s glasses were slowly slipping off his nose. Jock snored softly.

Clearly, they were missing a Prep.

Down the hall, passing the sleeping lovers, sat Prep, cooped up inside of his bedroom. He sat on the edge of his bed, slumped forward, with his head in his hands. Prep’s hands trembled, dropping to his lap. At first glance, it would’ve looked like he was crying. With a closer look, he was far from it.

His jaw was pulled taut, gritting teeth against teeth, with a deep furrow between his unplucked brows. He’d been so frustrated lately, he had no time to groom himself. Prep fell back against his mattress, staring up at the popcorn ceiling.

“It’s so stupid,” He muttered, glancing over at his door—locked, of course—making sure no one would be able to hear him, and his ranting. Prep huffed, rolling over onto his side. “Christmas is all about Jesus, that’s a fact! They should be the ones apologizing, not me.”

Prep sat up, “Gosh forbid I try to keep the real meaning of the holiday, while they just try to make it about having fun!” He threw his hands up, frustratedly. “They just don’t get it,” He stood, walking towards his closet, continuing to rant as he changed.

He pulled an ankle length striped gown over his head, the sleeves falling past his wrists. He grabs a pointy hat, limp, and pulled it snugly over his head. “I’m only trying to keep up traditions, to keep the holiday about Jesus! It’s one thing they don’t go to church, but to ignore the entire point of Christmas? Gah! Bah humbug!”

And with that, Prep blew out his wax candle, and slipped into bed, muttering himself to sleep.

Outside the window, was a clear view of Hope’s Peak campus. It was spacious, and definitely not as murderous as the rumors. Except for the occasional hazing gone wrong. But that was neither here, nor there.

The wind blew heavy, the brittle trees bristling in it. The streets were coated with white, fluffy snow. Slowly, the wind began to pick up. It blew harder, as if a blizzard was hitting South Carolina. It was hazy outside, snow falling and planting to the ground in an unnatural manner.

The trees looked like they were about to snap, straining against their stumps and gripping onto their roots. Candle lit lanterns hanging on the posts outside went dim, stifled by the snow.

Then suddenly, it all stopped. The Hope’s Peak Academy campus settled into a calm, yet eerie stillness. Inside Prep’s bedroom, he slept soundly, everything in the same place as he left it.

Aside from the candle, west of his nightstand, now lit.
