Work Text:
Tim loved his family, But they could be too much especially around the holidays, He thought as he escaped the chaos that was the main room. The halls of the manor were beautifully decorated -alfreds doing- every now and then a small silly decoration would stand out, -one of his many siblings doing- making him chuckle at how out of place it looked.
Usually the holidays were some of his favorite time of year, But sadly this year he just couldn’t muster up the energy to enjoy the festivities.
Finally reaching his room at the end of the long hallway, Tim slipped inside only to stop immediately.
There a box sat unopened and wrapped on his bed. Confused, Tim limped over sitting down as he picked it up cautiously.
The box was light wrapped in red paper with little birds in christmas hats plastered all over it, a big bow decorating the top with rippons curling down the edges. A tag with his name in cursive written delicately.
Not seeing anything suspicious about the box Tim Slowly began to open it gently peeling back the paper until the cardboard box was revealed. The design painted over the box was familiar but Tim couldn’t say from where.
Opening the top flap and pulling out the tissue paper. Tim's confusion intensified when he reached inside and felt something soft and fluffy. Gripping it and pulling whatever it was out of the box only for his eyes to start burning as he looked at what he pulled out.
There held in his hand was a light tan bear wearing small back aviator sunglasses with a leather jacket with soft spikes on the shoulders, a familiar black shirt with a red symbol and a pair of ripped jeans. Shaking the teen changed his grip so he was holding in the middle only to press something inside.
“Hey Sunshine! I know you're probably at work but I saw something that reminded me of you. I’ll catch ya later love ya.”
Tim's breath hitched in a sob as tears rolled down his cheeks while he cradled the soft bear to his chest burying his face into the faux fur that smelled like hay on a warm day, Kon's voice echoing in the empty room as he squeezed it tight.
His bedroom door creaking open and arms wrapping around him seconds later had the dam fully breaking. Loud sobs echoed with the bear in his arms. His brother said nothing as he rocked them.
Tim didn’t know how long the two of them sat like that. It felt like it could have been hours but was probably only minutes. Sobs petering out into barely there hitches. Dick tipped the two onto their sides pulling the younger close running a hand up and down his back. Humming a light tune as Tim calmed down.
“I miss him.”
”I know”
Tim squeezed his bear tighter “He’s never coming back.”
Dick shook his head, “No he isn’t.”
“I couldn’t even go to the funeral.” He whispered,
“That wasn’t your fault babybird, You were still in the hospital.” His older brother tried to reason.
Tim shook his head in silent denial, Sure he knew logically there was no way for him to be there still recovering from the drunk driver crashing into his and Kon’s car. Ending what should have been a long life for one of the two boys inside and deeply injuring the other.
They were coming back from one of Kon’s concerts. His first one at a larger venue than the regular dive bars his band would usually play at. The High of a successful show had both boys giddy during the long drive back to their apartment. Tim curled up in his seat slowly going through the photos he took in the view finder of his camera chatting a mile as he explained the lighting and editing he was going to do for the best ones.
It was all so quick, Felt like all Tim did was blink before opening his eyes to see the concerned faces of his dad and siblings surrounded by the beeping of hospital equipment as they told him that Kon had passed away immediately and that Tim himself would probably never walk the same again.
The Kents were deeply apologetic at the fact they had hosted Kon’s funeral before he was released, Tim still didn’t know how to feel about that.
“Clark dropped that off a bit ago.” His brother informed him “Said Kon made it for you so you wouldn’t feel lonely while he was touring.”
Tim didn’t say anything, just gripped his bear letting the words echo.
“Hey Sunshine! I know you're probably at work but I saw something that reminded me of you. I’ll catch ya later love ya.”
