An Average Day In the Zombie Apocalypse

Summary:

Patty has a massively bad day as death, zombies and a human hating maniac who's somehow friends with her run rampant across the destroyed town. And to make it worse, the rest of the little survivor group she has made almost gets put in the crossfire of her "friends" horrid actions against her nephews best friend.

Notes:

Yeah so I've been reading Graveyard Shift by Locallyboxedghost recently and their works inspired two random AU ideas to appear in my brain. This is one of them. I've been working on this for a while and I just consider it a very rough pilot or something. I myself don't know what I was doing with this. I just wanted to write a DeadLavender zombie apocalypse AU with an asshole antagonist OC who's a related to Patty in some way. I regret not putting much Lila x Patty content as much as I wanted to but it's still there.

If this gets popular for some reason I'll consider making this a series or multi chapter fic. I usually don't care if my fics get any recognition because I'm a selfish person and write for myself. But this is an exception. Anyways enjoy.

Work Text:

“I'm shocked that you weren't upset with me smashing the skulls of your cop buddies Patty,” Said Wreck as he got done washing some zombie blood from his axe. Patty never understood why her friend would rather call himself something stupid like ‘Wreck’ instead of his real name which was Dale. Granted Patty would never understand most of the rather morbid behaviors he committed. “I mean, I hated their guts. Even before they were zombies I wanted to stomp the shit out of their heads until their skulls cracked like the rest of the people in this town. But I knew you cared about them, so I thought you would say something about it,”

Patty looked at the crushed heads of the corpses that she once called friends and colleagues and then sighed as she checked her shotgun. The woman checked everything before she turned her head to the taller man and replied with a solemn but blunt, “Dale, they were already dead. Those things were not Jack or John. They were rotting creatures that replaced them,”

Wreck groaned and face palmed. “Oh come on Patty, you know how much I hate that damn name! Are you trying to piss me off for no reason?”

“Well, I don't want to call you a terrible bootleg professional wrestler gimmick name when you have a real one that I'm more comfortable with,” Patty fired back. “Let’s just go before more of those brain eaters show up. Take as many supplies as we can carry and fast. Lila and the rest are waiting for us back at home and I don't want to be in this sheriff's department for another hour,”

Wreck just groaned and spat on the corpses of once was the two cops and Patty's only true friends besides well… Wreck. After a bit Wreck just relaxed and calmed down a bit, knowing better than pissing off the only true friend he

really had in his entire life.

“Alright, you are the boss,” said Wreck. “Let's take some loot and get the Hell out of here!”

It was about a few months into the apocalypse. No one really knew how it started, there was no evidence of the new random disease besides some vague connections to the local bar. But that wasn't enough for a full explanation of what the Hell happened here to cause it. But what happened next was that a zombie-like virus started taking a damn lot of people. No one knew who got it first or how to stop it. The only real thing that people knew was that the town's society was in the way people knew it was destroyed. It was wrecked into several places. And now people had to go out and survive or else the green brain eaters would go and eat them alive.

Patty thought it was a major pain in the ass and something extremely heartbreaking. Sure, she wasn't the biggest fan of people in general. But she knew that society and the like was needed for safety and overall order. She had a girlfriend with a kid and a nephew who was not all well from his former job at the Candy Club before the apocalypse. She didn't want them to be hurt in any way, and she didn't want them feeling bad either for it given their pasts before the tragedy. She wasn't a fan of people getting hurt in general. She just wished that this never happened, all she wanted to do now was wish it was all a dream or something. She just wanted to hang out with Lila and see her son Skid and grow while also seeing her nephew Kevin become successful.

But to Patty's old friend Wreck, he was happy this happened. The guy was always an asshole, he hated everyone but Patty. The man was always known for flipping anyone off, screaming at women & children for no reason and beating the Hell out of employees and customers because they slightly inconvenienced him. He always had a violent grudge for humanity in general, so seeing society collapse was like Christmas morning for him. It was finally an excuse for him to not only kill brain eating monsters with no consequences, the same was for people as well! How glorious! Well that's what the big psycho thought, it was shocking that Patty even managed to befriend such a human being.

They were traveling around for supplies like usual. Which led to them discovering the good ol sheriff's department that Patty visited sometimes when Jack or John needed her to be. It was a no brainer when both the blonde tired woman and the crazy black haired man decided they should go inside for supplies. They needed ammo for weapons and food along with fresh water. This place could have at least a little of all three. But things were bad as soon as they got inside the dreaded place.

Like damn a plague, several zombies were all over the place. Every corner of the building you could see them just hiding there or just crawling around. They were waiting for any poor living being to just walk around to the wrong spot and get eaten alive by them. And unfortunately for Patty and Wreck, they were in the middle of all that mess and had to fight their way through it.

Patty immediately decided to pull out the shotgun she had and opened fire while Wreck just charged at the walking corpses with his hatchet and went to town chopping them to bits. It was hell, blood and guts were everywhere and stained the clothes they both had, Patty had to just see nothing but more brain eaters whenever she tried to catch a break. And to add to her annoyance, she had to talk Wreck out of fist fighting every zombie he saw.

This painful process lasted for about a couple of hours or so. In that time Patty ran out of ammo for almost all of the two firearms she had (a pump action shotgun and a Beretta pistol.) and saw a human survivor trying to live in this forsaken only for Wreck to strangle him to death and take his loot because “Why not Patty? People are worthless sacks of shit anyway. The supplies they have matter more,”

Sometimes Patty wished Wreck wasn't such a sociopath with no regard or respect for others or himself.

But to make things worse, once they got into the main spot. They saw Patty's old friends Jack and John. But… it wasn't really Jack and John anymore. Both of them were now zombies, bite marks and several bits of messing flesh just gone from both of them. They became nothing but zombies. Patty didn't know whether to cry or just deal with them and mourn later.

Wreck immediately just tackled one of the zombified cops and began to fight. Which immediately forced Patty's answer. She aimed the shotgun at the other and blasted his legs off. It only took a few minutes to make them dead again. Wreck managed to do most of the work with his fists, he just got rid of the other one with his axe that he dropped after tackling the zombie Jack and punching his head off like it was some boxing toy.

Patty did know that Wreck hated Jack and John but not to this extreme. His actions to even the corpses made her half sick to her stomach. Yet despite that, she knew it was for everyone's own good. Those were not her friends anymore… They were just mindless creatures, subhumans. They had to go, no they were already gone. They were gone as soon as they were bitten. So all was left for Patty to get rid of the zombies that took their appearance and move on. And that was what Wreck did for her. And she appreciated that greatly. It was one of the very good things Wreck could even do without making anyone upset was all Patty thought.

Now they were here, both of them just going around and collecting the stuff around the sheriff's department. There wasn't much stuff to really get. There were just some cans of beans and a very little supply of ammo for handguns and shotguns. It was little but it was also way better than nothing. Even the littlest of supplies was useful to them in this damn situation. The apocalypse was harsh and you need as many supplies as you can get.

After a while, they were done, the backpacks were now filled with everything both Wreck and Patty needed for the rest of their group. Right afterwards they just made like a tree and dipped out of the place as soon as they possibly could. That was terrible, Patty thought. There was no way in Hell that she was going to go there again. She wouldn't even want to waste energy and headspace on it if she had the choice. She was now just thinking back to where Lila is and just dreaming about it for some reason.

Lila was just beautiful to Patty. While Patty and Wreck walked all the way back into the town of destroyed buildings and zombified brain eaters. Patty just continued to think about Lila. Lila was an amazing and adorable woman. She was kind, welcoming, beautiful and one of the reasons why Patty wasn't insane now. She was capable of doing whatever she wanted when she put her mind to it. She held off a lot of zombies on her own with a fighting spirit that rivaled Wreck's in ferocity and brutality, she didn't need help Patty thought.

But despite that, she was grateful that Lila still wanted her help and love out of anyone else. Despite the fact that she could do all that important stuff needed for her and her son's survival herself, Lila still went over to Patty and asked for her assistance and comfort. Patty really appreciated and loved it. She promised herself not to let anything stop her from loving and caring for that perfect woman with purple hair. She would never let Lila go. Even if she did turn her into a zombie. Even if she-

“Hey,” Wreck said, immediately getting Patty to stop thinking about Lila. “I know you're not in the best mood. Because I sure as Hell am NOT in a good mood now either. But I have something to give you real quick,”

“This better be something important,” Patty said, her tone a little irritated. “I am not in the mood for your usual bullshit Dale,”

Wreck just did something unexpected and pulled out a couple of chocolate peanut butter cups inside some generic orange and yellow wrapping. Patty just looked dazed for a bit before she gently took the candy and put it in her pockets. Probably not the best idea but Patty didn't really seem to care if it melted or not. She was paying more attention to the surroundings of her environment when she was walking around with her friend. Was Wreck her friend? They did grow up together and all but Patty just didn't trust him on his decision making. Maybe she'll think about it later.

“I remember you telling me that chocolate peanut butter cups were your favorite candy,” Wreck said, looking around for a zombie or person to kill most likely. “I found a broken vending machine at the sheriff's department and then found it among broken glass and other snacks. Decided to give you it. Didn't see a reason not to,”

“Wow, that's actually pretty sweet,” Patty muttered with a smile before she just sighed and looked at Wreck's large ghoulish freckled face. “I'm shocked you did this. Thanks! I thought it was going to be some rude prank or a middle finger!”

“Why would I ever do that?”

“You do that to literally everyone Dale,”

“Ok that's because I think humanity is a curse and we should kill it along with this zombie infection. Also I'm not fucking Dale Patty! I thought we talked about this before!”

“Yeah whatever you say Dale, whatever you say,”

“I wonder why we're friends sometimes now,”

“The feelings mutual, it's very mutual,”

-

It took a long bit before they were able to reach where they wanted. It was mainly because Wreck decided he'd kill literally any zombie or human being that was visible within his line of sight. It was a pain in the ass. Sometimes Patty wished she would just kill Wreck with the shotgun she had right now. But she knew better, she wouldn't even consider it. Wreck was good at protecting her and the rest of their group of survivors. And besides she had proven before that she can keep him in line enough so he doesn't go on a genocidal rampage.

The road did take a long while. Some zombies were walking around as always but they were easily taken care of. Nothing better at killing them with a 12 gauge or the sharp blade of an axe Patty supposed as they walked across the barren streets.

“So…” Patty said, looking around. For some reason she remembered Lila telling her that she, Skid and Kevin were going to meet them sometime soon. That was a good idea, it was better to be somewhat mobile most of the time instead of just being around at one place she assumed. The place they were staying in was a campsite for some reason instead of their house. Either way Patty had to inform Wreck about it. “Do you see Lila and anyone else that looks familiar?”

“No, not really, just zombies,” Wreck replied for a bit. He took a deep breath and exhaled for a bit. After a bit he did pay more attention to actually looking for Lila or her kid. He didn't know why he was doing this all of a sudden when he didn't care about them at all. Probably because Patty told him to. After a bit his eyes widened and he immediately pointed straight ahead. “Holy shit! Patty look!”

“What?” Patty immediately asked, looking everywhere. “Did you see her?”

“Yeah, I did. Just look straight ahead!” Wreck said, pointing straight ahead. He then cracked the knuckles on his hands before he also said, “But most importantly, look! It's John's annoying nephew! Or at least one of them! I'll be right back!”

“What? Dale what the Hell are you doing?!” Patty said as soon as she noticed what was happening. She found out that the person Wreck was talking about was Radford. Who was a very special guy to say the least. He was not only one of John's nephews, he was the best friend of Patty's nephew Kevin. And so far Wreck was dashing towards him like a lion does to a zebra. He was going to literally kill him. “Don't do what I think you're going to do! Do you have any idea what situation is going to happen if you go after that guy!”

“I do not care!” Was all Wreck could say before he immediately punched a fearful Radford's face, sending his stupid 3D glasses to the ground.

Before Patty could do anything, Wreck began to beat the ever loving shit out of Radford. He broke his legs, he grabbed him by his throat and choke slammed him. He even managed to break both of his arms too. He managed to do all of this with his bare hands as well. Radford didn't even have time to speak properly. He was just completely silent as the bigger and more intimidating monster was bringing him to an absolute world of pain. And it made Patty feel nothing but a surge of rage a bit seeing this.

She wanted to go and kill Wreck at that very moment. She wanted to just aim her 12 gauge and just turn Wreck into the same zombies they killed off on a daily basis. But in the end she couldn't, it was too late. Radford was too close to Wreck for it to be a safe shot. Even then, she had to think of a better plan to take this man down. It was going to be a huge plan. Patty hated to admit it, but she needed to wait a bit before she could kill Wreck, or what she should be called, Dale without any negative repercussions.

In the distance, Patty could see her beautiful girlfriend Lila walking around with rifle in hand along with her son Skid and Patty's nephew Kevin. Patty waved at Lila as soon as she saw her, trying to go and get her attention. Which she did. Lila waved back, Kevin looked rather solemn as always and Skid looked happy as always. But once Patty's girlfriend and nephew saw Wreck doing what he was doing to Radford and snapped.

While Wreck was pummeling Radford to a pulp. Lila and Kevin looked absolutely disgusted and heartbroken while seeing this. They immediately aimed their guns towards Wreck and told him to stop. Both of them yelled out so many insults, warnings and threats. But Dale didn't care, he did not care at all. All that man cared about was what he was doing now, doing the completely unforgivable by doing this to such a person.

It was too late, after Dale was done. Radford was nothing but a twitching screaming mess. By that point all the zombies came along as well, as they heard the noise that happened from Dale turning Radford into a pulp. They were coming as a pure hoard and they kept coming and coming in waves. Everyone knew that this wasn't going to last. Despite what everyone wanted to do, they knew that they had to go before they were going to get eaten alive.

Once he was done with that, he just grabbed Radford and then threw him right towards the hoard before running away from them. His actions left all of them just confused and rather terrified. Did he just… randomly do that? Why? What was the point of that? Why would he go ahead and do this out of all things?!

As soon as Patty went to Lila, Kevin and Skid. Lila couldn't help but ask the following as they heard Radford's flesh begin to get eaten by the massive group of cannibalistic undead.

“Where is he?!” Lila said as she looked around the place and then aimed her rifle at the zombies and opened some fire. “I just saw him just go, is he gone?”

“Dale just decided to go and dip,” Patty said as she looked around and then grabbed Lila’s arm. Tugging it a little bit as she saw the hoard of the undead come more and more. “We just have to go though Lila. We have to go NOW!”

“Alright!” Lila said with a nod.

“I'll kill him!” Kevin said as he went with Skid who was just getting super excited and cheering for some odd reason. “I swear to God whenever I see him, I am going to slaughter him for what he did! I just can't!”

Eventually they all managed to run away. Despite the rather obvious fact that it shouldn't have happened, Radford was quite useful as a distraction in a morbid way. They didn't pay attention to them and as soon as they noticed something else everyone left.

Patty knew that things were going to be Hell as soon as they went to a place to settle for the night.

-

Later that night, they all went into Lila's old house. It was just massively agreed upon by everyone that Lila’s house was the best option. It had beds and actual living quarters. And shockingly, all the zombies just didn't want to go near there. It was pretty shocking. Patty could remember seeing a zombie go towards Lila who was dashing into her house and then just walked away afterwards because Lila went inside. How did this house manage to do that? Either way Patty was glad that it did happen.

The next few hours were chaotic. Kevin was seething and raging over what happened and sobbing. He just screamed and lost his mind. Patty, being the good aunt that she was, tried to console her nephew who was just enraged. But she really couldn't pull it off all that well. All he just said to her was some regard of “I want to kill that asshole so bad. He's too much a plague on this earth,”

After a bit Patty just left him alone. She knew better than to go and force anyone to be happy. She knew that just didn't work. So she decided to just leave Kevin be. That was enough.

Skid was alright, nothing really bothered him that much. By this point he was just confused about what happened. All Lila and Patty told him was “Something very unfortunate happened and a good friend of Kevin sadly passed. So please be careful and considerate of everyone's feelings,”

All Skid could say back was “Yes!” Before he just continued with his day. Patty honestly loved that he didn't really change despite this whole mess. Sure some things did confuse him and they didn't know if his best friend Pump was alive or not. But either way nothing much really changed. It brought nothing but a little bit of hope to Patty and everyone else's soul. Skid was a good kid.

As for Dale, he was still around. Patty saw him in the backyard of the house while she was peeking through a window. He managed to just be there before they did and decided to stay outside. Patty could see his glowing green eyes stare back at her. She could see how unnatural and rather… inhuman he was sometimes. At least he stayed from a distance. Patty knew they needed him for a little longer but now he made everyone want to take his head after his actions earlier, herself included. So she just decided to go ahead and ignore him for now. I mean… What else should she do? She had to prepare for the future. And she needed some time of relaxation and comfort in this zombified hellhole.

It was all leading to right now, like the good ol’ days Patty and Lila were back in the bedroom. Today was tired and stressed from all the death and sadness this apocalypse ordered, so they both decided to go to bed and sleep together and hope nothing bad happened. Patty didn't tell Lila about Dale being outside because it wouldn't really be needed. Plus Lila was probably going to freak out and try to go after him anyway due to not only the Radford incident but everything else that man has done over the years after and before this apocalypse happened.

Both women were just relaxed and just holding each other on the bed. Patty's weary head rested perfectly on Lila's shoulder as they both just sat there and thought of better days. Days when murder and the undead were not common or normalized. Days when society was still alive and not whatever this was.

But even when they're relaxing, Patty still had to hear about the guy with glowing green eyes standing outside right now.

“I seriously don't know why you still hang out with that guy and all,” muttered Lila, her eyes closed as she yawned. “I can't believe he was even capable of doing that. Where is Dale anyway? I didn't see him anywhere near the house after he ran off after killing Radford like a sociopath,”

“I don't really know or care,” Patty replied, nuzzling Lila a bit. That was enough for her to blush and forget about anything to do with that incident that happened earlier today. “I don't want to talk about him now. Today has been a massive pain lately and despite how much of a help he was in the past. Dale is just a negative terrible human being and I don't want to think about Poe like him now. Besides, we should be happy that we're alive and here to begin with. This place is, well, amazing! Zombies don't show up and it's all warm compared to the camp sites we've been going through as of late,”

“Oh really?” Muttered Lila with a chuckle. She always liked having some self deprecating humor. Patty didn't know why she even did such a thing. But that was something Lila did. And she didn't want to go and prevent her from doing it unless Patty had a good reason to. “I never really heard anyone say something like that about my house. Well expect for Jaune, she always was into anywhere I live in,”

“Why wouldn't she?” Patty said, her tone sweet as sugar as she grabbed Lila's hand and gave it a squeeze. “This place is great, I love living here with you. Honestly if I had a choice between anywhere else and here with you. I'm picking here most of the time,”

Lila blushed and just held Patty's hand back. “You really didn't have to say all of that. I'm flattered but I didn't know I needed all this sudden affection from you and all,”

“Trust me sweetheart, you do,” Patty said, giving Lila a smile and squeezing her a little bit. “Look, I know you're always hard on yourself and everything. Especially because of this little apocalypse that's been happening. But you shouldn't have to. So far our little group has been doing way better than all the other people I've been seeing around here. You should be proud of yourself Lila. Don't let any asshole tell you otherwise,”

“I love you Patty,” was all Lila said in response.

Patty just kissed Lila’s forehead and said “I love you too Lila. I love you too,” before both women fell asleep a few minutes after. Today was anything but a good day. And Patty, along with Lila wished they could just forget all of it. But even in the worst of days, there was at least some sort of hope. It was the only thing really driving everyone to still exist here.
