Chapter Text
Frank slowly trudged up to the sorry excuse for a door, with it’s chipped black paint and black bruises of what he assumed was mold, making a point of stomping each foot down with a little more force than necessary, just incase. He could already hear the muffled voices bickering for what he could only assume was hours—because when wouldn’t it be?
He used the side of his worn shoes to kick open the front door, kicking off his musty fake converse and walking as fast as his little legs could take him past the piercing screams and curses being exchanged between his ‘parents’—who, of course, did not look Frank’s way at all—Frank’s eyes not leaving his feet once.
He dashed across the squeaking floorboards, his feet giving way and nearly landing face-first on the sticky floor (that probably hadn’t been washed for god knows how long) but catching himself just in time and scrambling up the stairs to his room.
After dumping his bag on the ground and shutting his door (carefully, because he was pretty sure it was on its last hinges) Frank tripped over something on his way to his bed.
“The fuck?” He mumbled groggily, before turning around and beaming at the sight of a familiar, and very, very cute face. “Ella! I didn’t see you there, silly, you scared me! Oh you’re such a little cutie, aren’t you baby?” He kept on rambling as his clueless dog stared at him with that same empty and dopey, yet fond expression.
After a few more moments of Frank’s nonsensical words that were more just noises in a high pitched baby voice, he decided to make his way to his bed.
He spread himself on his unmade and messy sheets before sliding his hand underneath his pillow and grabbing just ‘journal’, that was really just a diary. He slid a pen out of the band of the book, opened it and tapped the pen against his chin, deep in thought.
Finally, he took a deep breath and put the pen to the paper.
25th August.
It’s been like, what, 2 days since the bite? I’m not sure, but It’s starting to really ache and the skin around it is like a weird colour.
Idfk what to do, and I’m fucking terrified. What if Illi finds out? Fuck, she’d never be with me now. I’ve not told anyone yet and i have NO idea if I should, because like isn’t this like deadly and gonna turn me into a zombie? Zombies r lowkey cool asf tho, so whatever. I’m pretty sure it’s incurable too, so that’s pretty fucking scary.
Ugh whatever, I’ll be back tomorrow, I’m back at school tomorrow too, so I have no idea how I’m gonna keep my cool around Illi.

He sighed and snapped the book closed, before sliding it back into its trusty hiding place.
Ella barked, hoping for his attention now he was done writing. “Yeah, yeah, I know,” he mumbled, being met with a slobbery tongue lathering his face, and drawing a fond giggle out of him. “Okay, okay, fine. Come on.” Frank smiled at her, lifting the covers to make space for her to curl up under the covers with him.
He didn’t bother to change out of his uniform, he was just too comfortable. Cuddling up closer to Ella, he switched off the light and closed his eyes.
