Important Things Got Eaten This Episode

Summary:

Shanks is really going through it, why oh why did he left Luffy follow him around like a yappy little dog?

Notes:

Idk how many times I’ve rewatched ep 3, only to realize I was done and I could move onto ep 4, oops. It’s been a weird week in my defense. I’ll tell ya more later.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Shanks walked back to Party’s Bar, he’d gone to the docks to check on his ship, and just take a minute to breath. Luffy had eaten the fruit, he’d eaten the damn devil’s fruit! And he didn’t even know what had happened to him, what was going to happen to him.

It was Shanks fault, he should have hid the gum gum fruit better, should have left it under lock and key in his cabin, his crew may have plenty of fools on it, but none would steal from him.

But now, Luffy had eaten the fruit, and Shanks had to wonder, what did this mean?

What would it mean for Luffy?

The boy’s first skill he brought up, no matter the day, no matter his intent behind joining Shanks’ crew, was that he could swim. The boy was going to drown before his balls dropped at this rate.

And then he’d run off, probably to cry somewhere if Shanks had to guess.

How the hell was he going to be a pirate now?

Sure, Shanks knew of pirates who had eaten devil fruits, but in every case it was intentional, they’d been knowing adults when they’d made their choice.

Luffy didn’t have the first idea of what he’d gotten himself into.

Shanks rubbed a hand over his brow, this wasn’t good, this really wasn’t good.

And he couldn’t even truly be mad at the kid, because he hadn’t locked up the devil fruit. He’d all but served it to the boy on a platter, just leaving it laying around, and then riling the boy up like he had. He knew the kid tended to eat his feelings.

Swinging open the door, Shanks expected to be greeted by his crew, or at least soundly mocked by them, but silence met his ears. Where was everybody?

He stumbled out into the street, only to find a crowd forming some distance away, if he wasn’t wrong, he could even hear the mayor pleading for someone’s life.

Luffy’s small cry of “mayor!” Let Shanks know everything he needed to know.
