My first time writing something firmly set in movie canon! I do enjoy how movie stratt’s feelings towards grace are a little more ambiguous than in the book, hence the dual relationship tags.

Work Text:

He looked almost peaceful, there in his holding cell bed. Eva could nearly pretend he was sleeping. But those other images—the fear and the fruitless struggle—such things would be harder to shake.

He would spend two days in detainment, and then he’d be transferred onto the ship a few hours before launch. And then he’d be gone.

Eva reached out, stopping just short of his hand, which she imagined was warm, despite its lifeless appearance. She could excuse this brief lapse into sentimentality so long as it went no further.

A simple goodbye—and that would be that.
