Work Text:
It was the buzz between them, how Tandy had said no cheating. She was to reach out to him standing in that cold church. Wishing for that hoodie seemed to dissipate as soon as she saw him standing there in the first place. Then conversations and here they are with the knowledge that if two powered beings tried to touch skin who knew what would happen?
She rose her hand to reach for the side of his face, her eyes closed the light bright and burning, she could see it rise into her eyelids. After that it was the electricity forming onto her fingers. Sure it was not the physical formation of holding a dagger and she was trying to stop those thoughts from entering her mind. Her worries molded into the walls of the church as an off feeling brought into her heart, rising. Her feet felt comfortable, nicely placed not dashing onto dirt or those planks of wood at this point, placed in a bubble she always found him with. Not scared of that man who haunted her dreams or all those that wanted to see her down, beneath them.
The air felt different, charged not in a way that her blood had spiked but in such a manner that her heart would seem to relax and settle back into the lull of it all. Not through the drugs or the alcohol but the closeness of his skin. The manner of which her soul seemed to finally align with her body without any substance. Just the buzz of almost feeling his skin, before she felt the wall behind her and the realisation she had just missed a concussion after being thrown into a wall. With her hand so close to his face, she never wanted to feel numb again, her nerves felt explosive as she steadied her palms on the wall.
—
The no cheating seemed to ring in his ear but it was like when he slept, when he felt the quiet of sleep and knew that his most safe and vulnerable times always brought him to some off-places but mostly back to her. To see her in front of him and feel his worries melt away like the butter of morning breakfast. At least slightly, his emotions would rise but he felt different, felt more in his skin and bones, not shaken out of them. To push his emotions into the external in harsh motions, not with her.
How despite her saying not to move, he felt his hand inch closer to hers. Reaching, that electrical buzz, the warmth despite the shiver that seemed to want to battle his own body. It was that soft exhale how he felt that his mind was buzzing with all those thoughts. How they seemed so harsh before he felt the almost ghost of her skin. The words were numbing melting away and all he could feel was his soul consumed by calm. Like that beach. Like that cemetery, that ghost of childhood safety reaching in from when she last held his hand. When he saved her.
All the while as a small smile seemed to grace his lips and a soft exhale from Tandy, his thoughts were dashing away the negative and shifting positivity into his bones. He knew she felt that too, almost their hands almost touching one another’s skin. The notion that he felt so calm, secure, safe… nothing to tell him no in his mind. Not having that fear of the world pressing down into his brain on him, for who he was, what they always thought he was.
Even with the whoosh of the air as he crashed into the church wall all he could think was, wow something clicked into place. — It was as their eyes met, even with adrenaline soaking into their eyes. The shock of it all making their pupils minimise and voices striking a whisper into the shadows. Like always when together they froze, in a world of their own in each others eyes, both brown but carving hope into the other soul’s through their beautiful patterns. They knew that no matter what life twisted them into, their hope and safety was found within one another.
THE END!
