Things are bigger than a Slime and a Knight

Summary:

A world where a version of Kayne (or Nyarlathotep) lives just outside Hastur's golden gates, keeping vessels at bay. until they step away for a moment and Derek slips through the cracks. Now they have to work with Avery to save him before Hastur is freed (and they are found out), but things don't exactly go as planned (: Also probably best to listen to Malevolent BEFORE diving into this fic, though it'll be a while before i get to major spoilers (since this takes place in Hastur's prison in dawtde for a good bit). I'm not the best writer but now that i have an OC in this, i'm more motivated than my last fic. please don't execute me if this is bad ):

Notes:

It’s not the first chapter I published on A03, but the other one was kinda ass- besides I wasn’t feeling it. But now I'm also into Malevolent (a podcast on Spotify, DEF recommend if you haven't listened yet… esp because spoilers) so I’m cooking smth new.

Summary of Chapter 1: Avery decides to head off to save D3rlord3, but before he makes it to the caves, he encounters someone who seems to be friendly, but is definitely not a normal player.

Chapter 1: The Encounter

Chapter Text

Avery stares at his screen after finishing ‘searching for a world that doesn’t exist’, a mix of emotions ranging from terror to worry taking turns swimming in his gut.

He goes over the things he now knows, trying to think of what to do now:

- The guy who wrote the book’s username is D3rlord3.
- D3rlord3 is a hell of a lot smarter than Avery (and Avery considers himself decently intelligent).
- The minecraft world he found the book in was definitely NOT normal.
- Whatever is trapped in that world has insane building skills.
- D3rlord3 had seen something behind the gates that made him flee in terror (and Avery had thought this guy was unshakeable).
- D3rlord3 made the book to warn Avery specifically.
- Avery is not going to listen to the warning out of curiosity and something telling him that D3rlord3 is still there, and needs help.

So that’s how he decided, on New Year’s eve for some reason, to reboot the world and find D3rlord3.

He really should’ve just gone with his family to their New Year’s celebration but honestly he would rather deal with whatever is beyond the gates than be the babysitter while all the other adults in his family get drunk on whatever people drink at New Years celebrations.

Booting up the world and starting his recording were the easy parts, though it was strange that he was back at his base even though he logged off at the mine. But luckily for him- he wrote down the coordinates to said mine, so after switching to creative mode, he made his way there.

He landed at the entrance of the mine, then ran his way down the stairs, back to the familiar room with the 4 strip mines on the left wall. He opened the chest back up and grabbed the book, figuring that he might as well have it just in case.

As he turned to the wall he saw D3rlord3 break to get to the mysterious caves, a message popped up in chat:

(Ck55YXJsZXRob3RlcA==): Are you sure following him is a good idea? Creative mode won’t save you where that leads, little slime (:

Avery pauses, staring at the message in chat. He did NOT write that, and he has no idea who did, so obviously- he had to respond:

(TheMostMayo): what do you mean by creative mode won’t save me???

(Ck55YXJsZXRob3RlcA==): Such a good question, little slime!

(Ck55YXJsZXRob3RlcA==): let’s just say what lies beyond doesn’t damage your avatar- it damages YOU. (:

(TheMostMayo): like, it targets me outside of the game..?

(Ck55YXJsZXRob3RlcA==): oh aren’t you a smart cookie! Indeed it does!

(TheMostMayo): How??? That can’t be possible, that’s now how Minecraft works.

(Ck55YXJsZXRob3RlcA==): very true- normally. but can’t you agree that this world isn’t exactly normal?

(TheMostMayo): I mean yea it’s not but that still doesn’t answer how it can harm me outside of the game.

(Ck55YXJsZXRob3RlcA==): details I don’t think you’re quite ready for yet, little slime! Considering I doubt you trust me.

(TheMostMayo): I mean I have no idea who you are and how you’re in my game, so yea- I don’t trust you in the slightest.

(Ck55YXJsZXRob3RlcA==): how harmful ):

(Ck55YXJsZXRob3RlcA==): Though I guess that means I should introduce myself then, little slime.

Avery’s camera suddenly turns- though Avery wasn’t touching the mouse- and Avery was rightfully frightened, his hands hovering over the keyboard.

It pans to what looks like another player, with long messy black hair and red eyes with bronze (skintone) skin and wearing a black suit with a dark red tie- though strangely the avatar was barefoot.

Avery stared at his screen, confused and a bit frightened since this person was the one that clearly moved his camera.

(Ck55YXJsZXRob3RlcA==): You can call me…

(Ck55YXJsZXRob3RlcA==): Jane.

(Ck55YXJsZXRob3RlcA==): and let’s just say I’m much more a friend than foe (:
