Chapter Text
The Great Turf War.
Something all octarians and inklings have learned, the story of land be coming scarce and Inklings forcing Octarians underground. The Octarians tried to fight back, tried to win but were unsuccessful and led them to riot against the Inklings. Even with the great turf war done, the octarian army continued to attack the Inklings, even stealing the great zap fish to power their cities and Weapons.
The Octarian army kept Octolings as officers, more independent and intelligent then the Octarians. They were mind controlled and used as soldiers that would engineer and attack the Inklings. You were apart of this, you were mind controlled and used as a weapon.
You had grew up in the Army, you slept in their quarters, you worked to defend the army. You were kept sheltered in the army, you learned and you prided yourself on how good you were. Unlike some, it was like you enjoyed to create and destroy, you learned how to use weapons quick and affective. Just because it came easy to you didn't mean it was all positives for your life.
It was obvious that being an octoling was hell, you tried to become better and better just so that you could prove yourself worthy of living. There wasn't much you knew of yourself, it was like you were a shell that could be changed, thrown out, replaced, and subjected to anything and you could stop it. You were always under tight military schedules and procedures, you never got to live your life or just be you. You were a weapon, you were used.
Through your life in the Army, you stayed in engineering, you helped create and fix most things the army used for fighting. It didn't take you long to become an elite soldier, you did as you were told and you did it swiftly. you spent your days mostly in the workshops with other Octolings, the conditions weren't the best the dehydration and hunger would plague almost all the engineers. It was hot and dry as well, not the best conditions to be working in.
It was clear that the Army was starting to loose the scouts, especially elite scouts. It wasn't long till they had pulled you out of engineering and put you in field work. It was more dangerous to say the least, they made you go out and do field work for hours on end, set up camps to make the Army reach farther, scout out unmapped lands, and more. They specifically put you on camp duty, your first job being to lead a group of Octolings out into the unmarked territory and create a camp to sustain the octarian army.
The job was simple and clear but was dangerous, you were tasked to find area capable for the Octarians, name it as a base and build it slowly so that more and more could live there. Your group could consisted of you, another Elite octoling, and 13 soldiers. Once you had made it there and set up the living quarters, they were to send more with more resources and weapons. It wasn't the easiest to go through though, it was u marked Dessert filled with pure sand, and if you were unlucky enough you would run into some bandits from Splatsville. Once you thought about it, the base was pretty close to Splatsville which made it even more dangerous due to the amount of people that lived there.
Once you had departed from octocanyon, it was a straight ride through the desert, the hardest part would be passing through the border. The border wasn't closely monitored, people rarely were found in the desert but that didn't stop the chances. You and the other Elite were gifted with splat bombs as well as weapons of your choice, while the others were granted Hypnos Hades, and small hand guns that wouldn't do much damage If they were to attack.
Getting out of Octocanyon was easy, once you and your group had started to arrive to the Border was also surprisingly easy. But you couldn't help but bear something from one of the outposts that the others didn't seem to hear. You tried to shake it off but you just couldn't, you needed to hear it closer but for some reason it was like you were in a trance and it was gibberish. You continued to drive through it, noting the location for later.
It took hours to reach where the final location was, if it was by foot this would have cost a couple days. You tried to continue on with the other scouts, yall landed on a flat location that wasnt too far away from Splatsville, it was clear, the outskirts of the city, and a good view of it too. It took only a couple hours to setup tents, but you seemed more distracted then the others, you were more... Confused and noticed more things as you worked. Why were y'all forced to wear glasses, why did you need to stay with the others? Wasn't Splatsville docile towards the Octarians? Why were they trying to get closer to attack? All these questions floated your head, you couldn't make sense of it all.
After a day of the camp, you and the other elite soldier got word that you needed to map out the area around the camp to make sure there weren't any areas that Inklings or anything could try to get in. The best bet was to split up. You started to pace around for hours, but subconsciously you started to find your way closer and closer to Splatsville, faint speakers could be heard as you got closer. You wandered so far to the point you could barely see the camp, maybe 3-4 miles away from camp? It was all a blue of how long it was.
As you got closer you could hear that song again. 3 familiar voices coming from the city, it was as if the entire city was blasting the music. That feeling came back again you thought of more questions, what if Inklings didn't mean harm? What if life didn't need to be kept within an army that barely cared for you? As it got worse and worse, you went from pacing, to sprinting towards the city. You didn't need to be a locked animal that was be expendable. What if you were just.. You? All starting with Splatsville.
