Chapter Text
In the deepest depths of the underworld laid a very bored King, simply sitting on his throne and staring off into nothing. Well it wasn’t really nothing, he was staring at his demon servants who were dancing around and cracking jokes to each other.
He considered them as nothing, so in his mind he was staring at nothing.
Those filthy peasants were nothing to him, the only reason he hasn’t killed them all is because they see him as their King so in a way he felt a tad bit of pity like how a normal King would feel for his people. Except in this case it’s demons.
So he really should be able to just kill anybody and anything that he felt like. I guess you could say he still had some good in him.
The demon King leaned on one of his hands and continued to stare.
Yea they were all lucky that he still had morals, if you could even call it that, or else he would have already taken over this pathetic world.
The humans that feared him so should be the ones bowing down to him right now.
He did have all the power to make it come true, but he didn’t feel like doing it, at least not yet.
Those same humans who fought against him and his kind called him all sorts of names.
“Demon king”, “Lucifer”, “the worst demon”, “the ruler of hell”, “the biggest piece of shit” and so on.
But it was never Pierrot. It made his poor excuse of a heart twinge, knowing that nobody besides his demons knew his real name kind of made him feel lonely.
So yes he was bored and lonely.
But he’d never admit to anybody that he was lonely, no that made him feel weak. All this power and he couldn’t even get what he really wanted. It was pathetic. And Pierrot was everything but that. He was never that. He was the King of demons for crying out loud. He wasn’t weak like the others, he was the strongest being in this universe.
They should all be grateful that he even exists.
If it wasn’t for him causing the war against humans and demons, humanity would have never progressed like how it needed to. So instead of calling him all sorts of things they should be thanking him. They should be praising him instead of an imaginary figure in the sky that didn’t truly exist.
He was the god of this world, and yet, most humans didn’t believe in him.
Of course there were humans that liked him, but they were considered crazy. Especially since he was mostly considered a myth. They don’t have actual proof that he exists, only that they assumed that there was a ruler of where the demons spawned.
But since he never stepped foot out of the underworld they never saw him, it was as simple as that.
Pierrot taped one of his horns with the hand he was leaning on, he was seriously bored. He began wagging his tail, making it slam on the floor startling the other demons, which, noticing the King's frustration, ran away.
And now he was really alone, he heard a few whispers from the demons that ran away but their voices disappeared once they were out of his sight.
He sighed and blew a strand of hair that fell on his eye.
And now he was really glaring at nothing.
Maybe he should send some demons to cause some disruption in the human world, but no they already did that well enough. Even if they rarely did it in broad daylight since that’s when most of the humans were active.
And he must admit that the humans have gotten pretty strong with their magic. Of course it was nothing compared to his level.
It must have been all that training that they’ve been doing. He heard from one of his demons that they even created a school dedicated for learning magic. Even if not every human was blessed with those abilities, it was laughable honestly, seeing how some humans had to rely on the others with abilities to exorcise demons, knowing they can’t do it themselves.
It is the only slightly entertaining thing that he watches. Although he must admit that those so called tv series and movies that the humans created are pretty entertaining. But in the end he prefers to watch real fights happening no matter the winner. He didn’t really care when his demons lost. They didn’t deserve to come back after losing.
It honestly only disappointed him, how could demons even lose to mere mortals. Even if said mortals did team up most of the time. But Pierrot knew that wasn’t an excuse. Which is why by some miracle when a demon returned after its loss he’d personally kill them himself.
Call him cruel but it is what it is. They lost either way.
Pierrot sat up straight and stretched his legs and wings. He closed his eyes for a moment before getting interrupted.
“Your majesty if I may interrupt." Pierrot opened one of his eyes to take a peak and see which demon dared to interrupt his quiet time. And lucky for them it was one of his favorite demons.
“Well since you are already here, what is it?” He cocked his head to the side and lifted a brow. “And make it quick I don’t want to hear a testament.”
“Yes sure it’s just that…” the demon trailed off and Pierrot sighed.
“What is it?” He pitched the bridge of his nose, demonstrating his frustration.
The demon looked around and then looked up at his King. “If you’re so bored, why don’t you finally go to the human realm to play with them more efficiently.” The demon said as fast as possible.
Pierrot lifted his brows in surprise, not just by the demon's bluntness but also to take in the words he said. That could be a good idea, he has never been to the human realm. And he was bored out of his mind. “Sure why not.” He said.
The other demon gasped in shock, “I thought you’d kill me for the suggestion.” The demon admitted with a sigh.
“Oh I'm still pondering if I should.” Pierrot glared at the other “But I’ll let you off the hook since I'm feeling generous.” He shrugged his shoulders, “So you should leave before I change my mind, and also warn every demon that their King is taking a trip to the human realm.”
“Yes your majesty.” The demon took off as soon as the words left his mouth, not wanting to test the King any further.
Alright if he was going to do this he needed a good disguise. With a snap of his fingers his tail, wings and horns all disappeared. He also toned down the sharpness of his ears to look more human-like. He then conjured a mirror to stare at himself, he looked normal but he didn’t know if he should take away the red eyes or not. Well whatever he could just say he was albino. And speaking of hair, he gave himself a little haircut.
He put on an outfit that was all in black, black pants, black shirt and a long black coat. If he counted right it should be autumn so his outfit would blend right in.
And with that he opened a portal to a random alley where there was no site of humans. But he still double checked before stepping out. He took a big breath of fresh air and exhaled. Wow, did that feel good.
After being so long trapped down there feeling this felt surprisingly nice.
The situation was pretty laughable, a demon getting excited by something made for humans. He could only let out a laugh himself. No wonder his demons liked being here so much.
Maybe they were right, maybe he should take over this world completely. But not yet that wouldn’t be fun. He wants to play with the humans first. Like how his underling said.
Pierrot began walking in silence, right until he began hearing noises, so he followed those sounds all the way until the end of the alley where he was greeted with random humans walking around. Most of them seemed to be on their phones. While a few others seemed to be scanning the area, probably in search of demons. But they were stupid if you asked him, they should be looking in not so crowded areas that’s where they mostly appeared. It’s sad, they should know this after fighting them off for so many years. He felt a bit disappointed at this.
Of course this wasn’t going to ruin his day, he had faith that he was going to find much more interesting humans.
When he stepped out from his zone he immediately felt eyes on him. Weird, he thought. Pierrot saw mostly women turning around to take a second glance and then whisper something to what he assumed was their best friend. Maybe he should have changed the red eyes or was it the white hair? That wouldn’t make sense Hes seen humans with white hair before. Or maybe it was the combo.
He could always try asking.
He looked around before his eyes landed on a woman who was staring at him.
Bingo.
“Excuse me.” He approached the lady, whose face got extremely red, “Could you happen to tell me why im getting so many stares.” He looked down at the woman.
“I-um probably because you are good looking sir?” The lady fumbled with her words and then took off with a small “excuse me.”.
Ah well at least it wasn’t because he looked suspicious. He was just handsome for human standards, a grin formed on his face at this discovery. Humans did know what they were talking about after all.
He walked for a while getting a few more stares here and there.
He then heard a prominent voice.
“Looking for a way to train your magic into something magnificent? Then join our school and you’ll become the best demon Hunter ever!” Pierrot wonders what type of propaganda they could possibly be using in that school.
He still decided to follow where the voice was coming from.
“All ages are allowed, we have classes for everyone just like in a normal school!”
And that’s when he saw him.
The most beautiful human He's ever seen, he was breathtaking. A man with black hair and green eyes to match his outfit. Pierrot’s heart began racing so fast that he had to clutch his chest, it felt like it was going to burst at any moment.
His legs began moving on their own towards that man that was handing out flyers.
But no one seemed to be taking them. And yet he still had a smile on his face while talking, or more like yelling.
“Hey good looking Sir, you interested in joining?” The man winked at Pierrot.
The demon king felt his face flush at that, why was his body acting up.
The demon took one more step and looked down at the smaller human.
“Do you go to this school?” Pierrot asked, probably not the wisest first words to someone you just met.
“Of course I do and I enjoy it quite a lot.” He smiled.
Pierrot continued staring down at the man, “What’s your name?” He really needed to know.
“I'm Harlequin, what about you?” Harlequin smiled at him.
Should he even give him his real name, but then again nobody actually knew that the demon King's real name was Pierrot. So there was absolutely no way for anyone to discover who he really was.
“Pierrot, my name is Pierrot.” The demon King stuck out his hand and the other getting the hint shook it, “It’s nice to meet you Harlequin.”
Harlequin smiled at him again, “It’s nice to meet you too Pierrot.” The demon continued to stare at the other all while shaking his hand for what the other deemed too long because after a few more seconds he retrieved his hand.
Pierrot must have made him uncomfortable.
This was their first meeting and he was already failing.
“So are you interested in joining?” The black haired man crossed his arms behind his back and leaned in.
Pierrot widened his eyes and felt his blood rush everywhere. Good thing his pants weren’t that tight.
“Can you show me where it is?” Pierrot needed to spend more time with this human named Harlequin. He couldn’t quite put the name on the feeling only that he never wanted to leave this human's side.
The demon king has never felt this emotion before. Even when the thrill of watching fights was there, it was never this. Never his heart racing this much, never his face flushing this much. He didn’t need a mirror to show how red his face probably was.
He wonders if the human noticed his strange reaction.
Harlequin took his phone out and checked the time, “Sure I can show you where it is.” He picked up the remaining flyers and motioned for the other to follow him.
Pierrot walked a few steps behind Harlequin to take a good look at his back. He had a nice waist perfect for the demon king to hold. Pierrot licked his lips at that and grinned.
Harlequin must have felt his gaze on him because he turned around and waited for the other to catch up. “So what brings you here?” Harlequin asked, attempting to strike up a conversation.
He couldn’t exactly tell him the truth so he had to come up with a quick lie. “Im only asking because I can tell you are not from around here.”
“I actually came from Portugal because of financial problems, living there is just too expensive so I hope to find a better life here in the states.” He had to believe this.
Harlequin hummed, “I see I once visited Portugal for their pretty beaches, which area are you from?”
“From Braga.” He lied again. He was lucky that his powers let him know anything that he wanted.
“Oh I heard so many good things about that place, it’s a shame I couldn’t get to visit it on my trip, I heard it’s underrated.” Harlequin expressed in such a cute way that Pierrot felt like stopping both of them just to give him a kiss.
“Yes it’s pretty nice.” Pierrot agreed, but that was enough about him, he needed to know more about his human. “Are you from around here?”
“Yup, I was born and raised here. But I do love traveling around since it gets pretty boring here sometimes.” Harlequin said. “The only thing that calms down my boredom is getting to save people from demons.”
Pierrot almost forgot that he was talking to someone who most likely hated his kind. He wonders how Harlequin would feel if he knew he was talking to the biggest threat to human kind.
Maybe he should pretend to be a rookie at this, "I'm not very good at exorcising demons.” He said in a sad tone.
“Oh no worries, if you choose to join my school I’ll definitely teach you.” Harlequin smiled at him.
Ugh his human was seriously too cute. He ponders if Harlequin also felt this way, or if he felt this way with a different human. No he couldn’t, he would kill whoever they were.
“What’s got you looking so mad?” Pierrot didn’t even realize he had a frown plastered on his face.
“It’s nothing really.” Pierrot clearly couldn’t tell him the truth or else Harlequin would probably drop him and call him some sort of creep.
“Is it all the stares you are getting? Don’t mind them, they just think you’re good looking.” Harlequin said, assuming that that’s what was bugging him. “Also you have an interesting combo.”
“Meaning?”
“You have white hair and red eyes, I don’t think I have ever seen anyone like you. Not in a bad way of course.” So he should have gotten rid of the red eyes. Whatever, it's too late now.
“It’s really nothing, I'm used to getting stared at.” Pierrot interjected before Harlequin assumed something else.
“Ah right sorry.” Harlequin said. “Does it bother you? I mean if it was me I’d like the attention in the beginning but after a while it would get on my nerves.”
The demon king pondered if he should agree or disagree. And he came to the conclusion that disagreeing was always harder. “That’s how I feel, in the beginning it was fine then it got annoying and now I don’t really care anymore.”
Harlequin only smiled at him, not giving any verbal answer. Pierrot really wanted to continue talking, which was rare, but he didn’t know what to ask about, let alone start a conversation.
To be fair it wasn’t his fault he has been a loner his whole life and most demons were too scared to even talk to him. So forgive him if he doesn’t know how to start a conversation.
They walked in silence for a few more minutes until he heard Harlequins phone ring.
“Hey Inaba, what’s up?” Harlequin answered his phone with a smile, and oh did that make Pierrot angry.
During the whole conversation Harlequin had a smile plastered on his face even laughing a few times here and there.
Now he could say that this ruined his day.
Who was this “Inaba” and why did they have such a strong effect on his Harlequin.
“ ‘Kay I’ll see you soon bye.” Harlequin dropped the call with a sigh.
“Was that your partner?” Pierrot asked with a hint of anger in his voice. He didn’t want to kill a human already on day one.
Harlequin looked at him with wide eyes and a disgusted face, “What? Ew no she’s more like a sister to me.” He crossed his arms. “Plus she has a girlfriend and her name is Carol.”
Now that was something that he wasn’t expecting to hear but quite liked to. But that still didn’t answer one of his questions, “And what about you? Do you have a girlfriend or boyfriend?”
“Nope, I’m super single.” Harlequin laughed. “How about you? You must have at least a girlfriend with your good looks.”
“No, I’ve never even had a crush, much less a first love.” And this one finally wasn’t a lie. He found a few of his demons good looking, and even fucked a few but it ended at that. Nothing more and nothing less.
And the other demons also knew it was a one time thing with no feelings attached. He also found some humans attractive, couldn’t leave that part out, but again it was nothing more than lust.
With this human he feels much more than that simple feeling that humans so call a sin.
“I guess we are similar in a few things after all.” Harlequin stuck out his tongue with a smile.
Pierrot's heart fluttered again.
You know what he felt like doing.
He felt like taking Harlequin to the demon realm and lock him up forever, to never ever leave his side.
They could rule the world together. Heck they could rule the whole universe together. Maybe one day in the near future he will ask.
This was truly more than a feeling.
“So what did your friend need?” Pierrot asked still wanting to know why she called in the first place.
“Oh you know relationship stuff, they got into a fight and her girlfriend suddenly left, so now she wants to see if she’s cheating on her.” Harlequin shrugged.
“Interesting, and how is she going to find her?”
“She put a tracker in her phone.” Wow this Inaba girl might be as crazy as him. Now he was curious to meet her.
And Harlequin, seeming to have read his mind, said “I’ll introduce both of you when we reach the school so we can all be friends together. Only if you want to of course.” And if Pierrot didn’t know better he’d say that Harlequin was blushing at the idea of being his friend.
“I would love that.” Pierrot smiled. There was this one question that he forgot to ask his beloved. “How old are you?”
“I’m 25. And you?” Two years older than him.
“I’m 23.”
“Nice you’ll probably be in my class.” Harlequin did tell him that he went to this school but he assumed he’d be younger, he felt like 25 was a little too old to still be a student.
“You’re still a student?” Maybe he shouldn’t have said that he didn’t mean for it to come out so rude.
“No silly, I'm one of the teachers.” Ah now that made sense.
Was it even legal for students and teachers to be together? Not that he cared what was legal and what wasn’t. He would get what he wanted anyways.
“Look, we've arrived.” Harlequin said suddenly. “Ta-da isn’t it beautiful?” He stretched out his arms.
If Pierrot was being honest, for once since this damn day started, it was actually not bad. It looked like the school from something Potter, he remembers seeing a few of those movies.
So in conclusion the school was actually pretty neat.
“Can you guess what it’s inspired by?” Harlequin asked with excitement in his voice.
“Off of the movies?”
“Well yes but what are the movies inspired by?”
Now he had to really think, he didn’t want to disappoint Harlequin already. If he was any other regular human or demon he probably wouldn’t know the answer but since his brain was like the internet he could get any answer he wanted.
“By the university in Coimbra.” He said with certainty.
“Yes! Not many people know that. But of course you did, you’re Portuguese.” Harlequin reminded himself.
Pierrot himself almost forgot about that lie.
“Follow me, I’ll show you where the principal's office is so you can sign up.” Harlequin motioned for the other to follow him once more, and Pierrot followed along.
Harlequin seemed to have picked up the pace for some reason.
He still followed nonetheless.
“Here it is, he is probably going to ask you to fill up some papers and then you’ll be all set.” Harlequin explained. “Also I really need to meet my friend because I’m running late but I hope to see you in my class.” Harlequin waved goodbye and left before Pierrot could even say goodbye.
Whew that was a long walk Harlequin thought.
Well it wasn’t an actual long walk it’s just that this Pierrot dude was way too hot for him.
He's always thought people with hair were extra attractive but this new guy took it to another level. And those eyes there was something about them that gave him the chills. He was pretty sure his underwear was soaked from their interactions.
He couldn’t wait to tell this to Inaba.
And speaking of her she was at the front gate on her phone waiting for him.
“Girl you won’t believe who I just met.” Harlequin said at a one meter distance from his best friend.
“Was it Lady Gaga?” She asked with hope in her eyes.
“What not. I met this super hot white haired dude.”
“Oh what a bummer.” She huffed out.
“Hey this is serious.”
“Yea im just kidding tell me all about it.” She laughed. “I can’t wait to hear how you fumbled another hot guy.”
“First of all he fumbled me, not the other way around and second of all I asked to be the new guy to be our friend.”
“You what!” She yelled in surprise. How dare he offer her friendship around like it’s some blunt. “Ok let me hear you out first.” She calmed down. “But hurry up we don’t have all day.”
“So I was handing out flyers for the school as usual right? It was going normal, not many people were interested until this dude came and stared down at me so I asked him if he’s interested in joining.”
“And what did he say?” Inaba asked, already invested in the story.
“And his first words to me were asking if I went to the school. Also I called him handsome and he completely ignored it.” Harlequin said.
Inaba was baffled. “Wait, wait, wait you called him handsome out of the blue?”
“It wasn’t really out of the blue he was looking at me so I tried to charm him and it kinda worked.” He said with uncertainty. “But anyways he asked my name, I answered, and then he told me his.”
“What is his name?” Inaba asked curiously.
“His name is Pierrot.”
“Kinda lame not gonna lie.” She shrugged, “Do keep telling.”
“Then he asked me if I could show him the way and I said sure. We then were talking a bit on our way here, and once we arrived I showed him to the principal's office and then left.” Harlequin explained.
“So that 's it? You just left? Didn’t even ask his number?” Inaba was baffled once more by her friend's stupidity. “What if you never see him again.”
“Please, he is enrolling in the school. I'm probably going to be teaching him magic.” Harlequin shot off her scenario.
“How old is he anyway just to make sure?”
“23, also what do you mean to make sure, I'm not a pedophile.” Harlequin said, feeling offended.
“I meant he could have been wayyy too old for you.” Inaba said with an exaggerated tone.
“I'm 25, nothing is too old for me.”
Harlequin was going to continue his conversation when he noticed his friend's eyes were glued somewhere else.
And she looked very angry.
He turned around and followed her gaze. She was looking at her girlfriend Carol speaking with…
…Pierrot?
Why the hell were they talking together?
“Kind it. I knew she was cheating.” Inaba whispered and yelled at the same time.
Harlequin closed his eyes and took a deep breath.“Ok calm down, they are just talking.” But when he opened his eyes his friend wasn’t there anymore.
It only took a second to find her again; she was already where her girlfriend and Pierrot were.
————
Pierrot didn’t expect Harlequin to leave so abruptly especially after their bonding time. But he’d find him later.
He knocked twice before entering the office. It was bigger than the ones in the movies that he saw.
The principal asked him a few questions like “What inspired you to come learn magic” and stuff like that. He honestly wanted to answer with Harlequin but he lied instead.
The principal seemed to believe him because he handed him out some papers to fill. The same papers that Harlequin told him about.
He filled them out as fast as possible to just get out of there and find his human again. Once he was done the principal thanked him for his presence and then sent him off. He said he was officially enrolled and that they’d call him back when they had his schedule ready.
Now you might be wondering how they’d call him if he had no phone. The simple explanation was that he created one on the spot with a SIM card and everything.
When he left he followed the scent of Harlequin all the way outside.
He saw him from far away talking with what he assumed was Inaba.
Pierrot began walking in their direction when suddenly.
“Excuse me sir.” A woman with long brown hair stopped him. “May I ask you a question?” He had no idea who this woman was or what she wanted from him.
He still answered anyway.
“What can I help you with?” He put on a fake smile.
“If your girlfriend got mad at you because you didn’t let her go through your phone what would you do?” Out of everything she could have said he definitely wasn’t expecting this.
“It depends, do I have something to hide from her?” Pierrot asked. Now he wasn’t one to know about relationships but he was curious where this conversation would go.
The girl blushed and looked down. “I do have something to hide.” She whispered
“Is it something bad? Like cheating?” He asked.
“What no! Of course not, it's just… it’s too embarrassing.” She covered her face with both of her hands.
“I can’t exactly help you if I don’t know what it is.” Technically he could, he was just curious to know what it was.
“I’m-I…” the girl fumbled with her words. “It’s just-“
The girl didn’t get to finish her train of thought let alone her sentence.
“You’re cheating on me with this white haired freak?!” Pierrot heard another girl scream.
“Hey don’t call him that.” He heard his beloved defend him.
Now it all made sense. This was the girlfriend that Harlequin was talking about and the angry one was his friend.
“Why are you defending him? Do you know him?” She said a little too loud and now they were getting stares, this time it wasn’t Pierrots doing.
“Yeah, he's the guy I was talking about.” Harlequin said with a hand on her shoulder attempting to calm her down.
“Ok , explain to me why they are together then.”
“It’s not like that, I was just asking him a simple question.” Carol defended herself.
“Is that why you didn’t want me to go through your phone? Because you were secretly talking to him?”
“No!”
“Then what is it!?”
Now the whole campus was practically staring at the four of them. Whispering things about what could be going on.
Some even pulled out their phones.
“Iwasreadingayuujixmegumifanficandididdntwantyoutoknowbecauseitstooembarrassing.” Carol said rapidly and then ran off with her hands covering her face.
“Did anybody get that?”
“Nope.”
“I was reading a yuuji x megumi fanfic and I didn’t want you to know because it’s too embarrassing.” Pierrot translated.
“Oh.”
“Oh.”
“Carol, wait , I'm so sorry, there is nothing wrong with that ship, in fact I kind of like it too!” Inaba yelled and ran after her girlfriend.
Meanwhile Pierrot was just staring at a dumbfounded Harlequin.
Harlequin then sighed and finally looked back at Pierrot. “So how did it go?”
“They said they will call me once they have my schedule ready.” Pierrot said.
“How nice I guess I’ll see you Monday?” Harlequin said more than asked. He was ready to leave when Pierrot grabbed his arm.
“Wait, can I have your number?”
“Yea sure, give me your phone.” Harlequin extended his hand.
Pierrot gave him his phone and watched as the other began typing.
“Alright if you ever feel lost or anything you can send me a message.” Harlequin waved and then left.
Pierrot didn’t want to let him leave but he didn’t want to push his limits, at least not yet.
But there was one thing he knew. Harlequin was his whether he liked it or not.
He was gonna get him.
