Work Text:
-What do you want?
…God gave them an option to choose, they can choose whatever happens next.
Crowley couldn’t believe they were given an option like that. He looked at Aziraphale, the angel seemed as confused as he was. It wasn’t an easy decision, they needed to talk. So Crowley looked at god and asked:
-Can we talk?
God just looked at him and said:
-Very well, I’ll give you privacy, as she snapped her fingers and sent them to…a bookshop? God knows where they were, and technically, she does. But there was no time to worry about that, was there? Maybe there was? How in Heaven did time even work there? Who knows, It’s not the moment to think about that.
Crowley looked at the white haired angel who was looking at him so lovingly despite the worry in his beautiful sky coloured eyes. Crowley would do anything to spend the rest of his possibly countable minutes with the angel. But maybe there was a way to escape from this fate. There had to be a way, angel was smart, so he surely had an idea, a plan. He had to have an idea. There had to be a universe, a possibility where they spent eternity together without the damned hell, heaven, or any of that business. Just a former angel and a former demon spending their time together like how it's meant to be, lying down in the garden of their cottage in the South Downs and maybe going to Ritz for dinner.
He wanted to hold the angel's soft hands, pepper kisses on the angel's fingers, and oh…How bad he wanted to kiss the angel again. Without any grief, desperation, or worry. He wanted to kiss the angel like they have all the time in the universe, look at the angel’s star-like pupils and talk about how much he loves him, every single week, every single day, and every single minute. But for that to happen, they had to choose. Choose for humanity and themselves. So Crowley looked at Aziraphale’s eyes as Aziraphale started talking:
-So…What do you want?
Wait. Why wasn’t angel giving some petty but ridiculously smart idea? He didn’t understand what was happening.
-Why? Why me? The former demon questioned as he looked at the angel's eyes. The angel was looking at him so adoringly as he answered Crowley's question:
-Because I only want one thing, and it is standing right in front of me. So what do you want, Crowley?
What did he want? All he wanted was the angel. A universe where they can spend eternity together. Damn it, he was going to be selfish. He wanted to be selfish. He just wanted to get heaven and hell out of their asses. Was it too much? Who cares if it was too much. They were given an option to choose, so he was going to choose a universe where heaven, hell, and everything divine got the hell out of the way. He was going to choose a universe where people had choices, he was going to choose a universe where they could finally be free.
-You know what I want. I want a universe where people have a chance, a universe where there is no hell or heaven in the way, a universe where there is a chance for “Us”.
Crowley said, as he realized that his eyes were getting watery. The angel had tears in his eyes as well while he gave an understanding nod. It meant that Aziraphale understood him, didn’t it? It had to.
-I believe we've come to a decision. Aziraphale said with a smile on his face. It was going to be alright. Everything was going to be alright. They were okay as long as they had each other.
Well, they’ve made their decision, so it was time to go back and announce it to God.
They quickly teleported back to where Lucifer and God were talking. Before any of them opened their mouths, Aziraphale and Crowley looked at each other once again.
Crowley took a single step forward and started talking:
-We want the universe back. Without the damn hell, heaven, or anything getting in humans' way. We want those people to have a chance and live.
God looks at them, she has that stoic look on her face as usual.
-Then, whatever shall I do with you two?
Aziraphale holds and squeezes Crowley's hand as he takes a step forward as well.
-I can be a former angel, I think my time to retire has come.
He says. Crowley looks at the angel's eyes as the angel gives him a teary smile. They were actually doing this. It was unbelievable. God was looking at them with an unreadable expression as she got up, who knew what she was thinking. No one because she was the only one who knew it all.
-You have made your decision.
As she says as she snaps a finger yet again, and both Aziraphale and Crowley feel the divine power rushing through them. They cling to each other even closer and close their eyes.
And suddenly everything is over as it starts. Aziraphale opens his eyes as he realizes where they were. They were back in their bookshop in Soho. His eyes meet with Crowley's, they were back. The earth was back, the city was back, they were back.
They were actually back. They both weren't able to stop tears roaming out of their eyes. It was actually over. They had done it. The apocalypse was over.
Then, Aziraphale gets up, and Crowley realizes they were crying while sitting on the floor of the bookshop. While they are holding each other by the arms, Aziraphale pulls Crowley up and pulls him down again as he catches the red-haired former demon by the lips.
It takes Crowley by surprise as their lips meet. Everything suddenly feels real. The tears on both of their faces making the kiss salty. They were still holding onto each other by the arms. God knows how long they were standing in the middle of the bookshop, but neither of them really cared about time-they had plenty of that now . They both pulled back after few more minutes, looking into each other's eyes. After all the fight and war, they were finally together.
…
-Are you ready, Angel?
Crowley asked as he was leaning on the door of their cottage's bedroom.
-Yes, dear, I can't be late, can I? We have a lovely reservation that's waiting for us.
Aziraphale answered as he finished getting ready. The angel was wearing a beautifully tailored beige suit, while Crowley had his usual black suit that complemented his lean figure. They've reserved a table at the Ritz for their engagement anniversary, so as they left the cottage to get to their Bentley, Aziraphale plants a sweet chaste kiss on Crowley's cheek.
-You don't even know how much I love you, dear.
Crowley pulls Aziraphale down to a kiss by the lips as he says:
-I can imagine Angel, you fill my world with stars every day. I love you.
-Okay, okay. You sappy old demon, we have a date, so you might want to start driving the car.
Aziraphale says as they look into each other's eyes again.
Finally, in the universe, there is a place for them.
