light years and lullabies

Summary:

“ah — i wanna meet you… my feelings loop, they loop. i feel like i’m gonna lose it, but i can’t tell you more than that.”

Kagamine Len misses his lover, an astronaut, who is across the galaxies.

Notes:

hello!! i’m hinoki, and this is the first fix i’m actually uploading to ao3 :) i have a lot more that i’ve written that i’ll hopefully upload!
for context, the first chapter is len x y/n, and the second chapter is what i originally wrote (len x syn, banana cheesecake, my oc ship)
this work is inspired by planet loop (wakusei loop) by nayutalien, and was written for valentine’s day 2026.

Chapter 1: light years and lullabies

Chapter Text

“ah – i wanna meet you… my feelings loop, they loop. i feel like i’m gonna lose it, but i can’t tell you anything more than that.”

Kagamine Len drummed his finger on the equipment in the dark room. He could do this eyes closed, but he’d grown to love the emptiness of tapping the keys, flicking the switches and staring at TOI-1338. The cotton candy hues that shift, blending like a delectable concoction, had been all but burned into his eyelids from how often he watched. Often, one of the other NASA researchers would stumble upon him in his personal observation cabin, a soft sigh escaping his lips as he continued to key down whatever new observations had been recorded down for the day. “In a corner of the milky way, the planets turn, going round and round,”

If there just so happened to be a day where there was a storm on Wolftopia, you'd find him murmuring to himself, hoping she was okay. And if the skies were clear? He’d be right there, smiling as he pretended she was watching the swirly pastel skies alongside him, as he stayed in the observatory, and she was only accompanied by her two soft shadows cast by the two suns the other planet orbited. “I fell in love with you in the distant cosmos.”

‘Tutururu turu tu turu ru’ goes Len’s hum as he taps the mic. It was the same date, the one he cared about more than his own birthday, but maybe not hers. Valentine’s was a bittersweet day for him for completely unrelated reasons than the singles of today – it was the day she’d been sent off to the candy planet he watched in awe. Len could picture how striking she’d look among the soft hues… Her long hair, starting off as gentle oakwood brown at the roots, before growing into fiery orange locks at the ends. The way the ginger would bounce off the soft pinks, and how her emerald-green eyes would shimmer brighter than both of Wolftopia’s suns. “And even though I understand I won’t reach you…”

The soft beeps and buzzes of equipment were their own instrumental to Len as he began to sing softly into the receiver, which would send his song to her. As Wolftopia rotates around its regular axis, and he watches with his lyrics, he couldn’t help but lift his hand to pretend to trace the stripes of the planet, as if it was Fruit Plus. “My feelings loop, they loop.”

The song had been practised, polished and perfected over the years, the time carefully used to become used to her presence, or lack thereof. The rhythm slowed to make sure every second would feel like an eternity across the transmission, the waver in his voice that he couldn’t even control, and sheer patience poured into each note. Even though she wasn’t there, still, he sang. Still, he sent his song into the dark. Still, he traced the curve of a planet that would never be able to answer him back. And yet, there was one thought that looped, that persisted in his mind – if his voice ever reached her, he needed it to sound like home. “How many light years has it been now, following your voice,”

(l/n) (y/n) unclipped her astronaut helmet from her suit and dropped it onto the depressurizing chamber’s seat, before clambering out of the drop pod. She took her first breath of Earth air after years – polluted as ever, but fresh at the same time. Contradictory like her time on Wolftopia was. It was a place that held her, but she never held as home. (y/n) turned the intercom off, abruptly cutting a certain someone who was on the verge of tears while singing. “Which has been disappearing into the extension cord?”

The intercom being cut wasn’t meant to force a gap, it was meant to heal the physical one that had formed. So when she raised her gentle fist to rap her knuckles against the doorframe in that oh-so familiar rhythm, it was with his soft blond hair and sparkling azure-blue eyes in mind. “Tutururu turu tu turu ru” The knocks spoke on their own.

And as she stood there with bated breath, still completely suited up and arms wrapped around herself in worry as she anticipated the worst – that it had all been a prerecorded message that he’d set up ages ago, before completely forgetting about her?

“Even if you’re not on this orbit…” My heart can’t think of anything else, because… (y/n)’s mind completed for her, her heart leaping to her throat at the sheer implication of his voice… so warm, so near, so pained, right behind this door where she stood.

But then, the lyrics abruptly stopped, the instrumental still ongoing, utterly neglected in the background as a soft shuffling of someone moving to their feet could be heard.

Len was sure he was hearing things. The loneliness was getting to him, that was it. But the unmistakable way the door had been knocked on, that telltale tone that belonged to him and only one other person… He twisted the doorknob, pushing the hunk of mahogany open just a crack. And there she stood, her hands clasped together in front of her, her eyes wide with unsung tears, matching his. “...There, generally, is only love.”

(y/n) was pulled into the observatory, ending up on the ground in a comfortable heap as both of them tripped on themselves and each other. She let out a soft huff of air through her nose as he dumbly pointed up at the sky above them, and recognition flashed across (y/n)’s face briefly. The pink, swirly skies of Wolftopia.

Lucky for Len and (y/n), their loop was a continuous, flowing motion, crossing over itself. Because, between them…

…There, generally, is only love.
