Chapter One: The Birth of Cupid
In the beginning, there were stars.
These weren’t the distant burning lights humans would one day see from their small planet, but living stars. They were bright, curious beings that floated through the endless dark like glowing children at play.
They were the children of Universe.
Universe was vast and patient, stretching farther than imagination could travel. Her voice carried through the cosmos like soft wind, and when her children spoke, their light shimmered brighter in response.
The young stars drifted through her endless sky, laughing in flashes of color.
“Look!” one small star chimed, spinning clumsily. “I can glow brighter than before!”
Another star flickered beside it. “That’s because you ate another comet.”
“I did not!”
“You did!”
Their lights bounced playfully across the darkness.
Universe watched them with quiet fondness. “My children,” she murmured, her voice rippling through space, “you grow stronger every day.”
One particularly curious star floated closer. “What happens when we grow up?” it asked.
Universe hummed softly, the sound vibrating through galaxies not yet born. “When you are ready,” she said, “you will become something greater.”
The young stars flickered excitedly.
“Greater how?” one asked.
“Will we get bigger?”
“Will we explode?”
“I don’t want to explode!”
Universe laughed. “No, my little lights,” she said gently. “You will become gods.”
The stars went silent. Then there was chaos.
“GODS?!”
“What does a god do?!”
“Do gods get snacks?”
“Do gods get worlds?”
Universe allowed their excitement to ripple through the void before answering. “Yes,” she said.
Her children sparkled brighter.
“Each of you will guide something important,” she continued. “Something that humans will celebrate, remember, and carry with them through time.”
A star drifted lazily upside down.
“What are humans?”
“You will see,” Universe replied.
One by one, as ages passed, the stars grew.
Their lights strengthened, their forms changed, and when the time came, they transformed into the beings Universe had promised.
They became Gods.
One became the keeper of winter joy and pine forests. Another became the spirit of harvest feasts and gratitude. Another cloaked themselves in pumpkins, shadows, and playful fright.
Each god received their own holiday world.
The Holiday Worlds were bright realms formed across the universe like jewels floating in the dark.
The gods built their worlds with laughter and magic, shaping celebrations that would echo through human history.
Among Universe’s children was one star that glowed softer than the others. It was the smallest star of them all.
Universe watched that one closely. “You are ready,” she told the star.
The star drifted toward her voice. “What will I be?” it asked.
Universe answered with quiet certainty. “You will guide the most powerful force humans will ever know.”
The star flickered curiously. “What kind of force?”
Universe’s voice softened. “Love.”
The star’s light brightened instantly. “Oh,” it said. “That sounds nice.”
Universe smiled across eternity.
In the blink of an eye, the star began to change. Light folded into shape, wings formed from glowing feathers, and a bow appeared, delicate but powerful.
When the transformation finished, a young god hovered in the cosmic sky. He blinked down at himself.
“I have wings.”
“You do,” Universe said.
“And a bow?”
“Yes.”
He tilted his head. “What does it do?”
Universe created a single glowing arrow and placed it gently in his hand. “With this,” she said, “you will help hearts find one another.”
The young god turned the arrow over carefully. “Find each other?”
“Yes.”
“Even if they’re lost?”
“Yes.”
“Even if they don’t know they’re looking?”
Universe’s voice carried quiet pride. “Especially then.”
The young god smiled.
“I like that.”
Universe gestured outward, and a new realm bloomed into existence.
Pink skies stretched endlessly. Rose gardens unfurled. Chocolate rivers glistened under glowing clouds shaped like hearts.
“This is your world,” she said.
The young god stared in awe. “It’s beautiful.”
“It will be called Valentine World.”
He fluttered his wings, still learning how they worked. “And me?” he asked. “What will they call me?”
Universe answered gently. “You will be called Cupid.”
The name echoed through the newborn world like the first heartbeat of love itself.
Cupid grinned. “Cupid,” he repeated happily. Then he looked down at the arrow again. “So I just have to shoot people?”
Universe paused. “Well—”
Cupid had already fired the arrow.
Far below, two confused lovebirds immediately started staring at each other very intensely.
“Oh!” Cupid gasped. “It worked!”
Universe sighed softly, though there was laughter in her voice. “Yes,” she said. “They’re in love.”
Cupid’s wings fluttered excitedly. “I want to do that again!”
That is when the God of Love began his work.
Across Valentine World, Cupid sent arrow after arrow flying through the air. He helped strangers meet. He helped broken hearts mend. He helped love bloom where it had never existed before.
The people adored him, the gods respected him, and Valentine World became the happiest place among all the holiday realms.
As centuries passed, one small detail quietly remained true.
Cupid has helped everyone find love. Everyone has found their soulmate except for Cupid himself.
