Never Let Me Go

Summary:

Jasper Hale was closed off for a reason - the 1800s were not particularly progressive. When Alice, also harbouring a deep secret, offered a way for them both to protect each other, he leapt at the chance. Their marriage became a shield, protecting them both from the shame that would come with opening up to the world. But then, he met Jack, a high school senior who only recently enrolled after years of homeschooling. Eager to make friends, Jack approaches the Cullens, unaware of their supernatural nature. Jasper feels emotions that were repressed for over a century re-ignite, but will he be able to confront them, or will his deep-seated self hatred break more than just hearts?

Notes:

This is my first work, so please bear with me if it's not particularly incredible, hopefully I'll improve with time :D. Thank you so much for giving it a read, I really hope you'll like it ❤️

This is currently very incomplete, and will be for a week or so - I'm planning on doing a longish introduction phase, before the action starts - please bear with me 😅

Chapter Text

Forks, April 2006

"This is it" I murmured, as I made my way to the reception of forks high school. Butterflies danced through my stomach, but I pushed them away, timidly, making my way to the desk.

Glancing in every direction, I took in my surroundings. The school was seemingly very typical. Halls lined with lockers; posters plastered on every surface. Students were clustered everywhere, like bees in a hive. They buzzed and chattered, gathering in little swarms.

It had been so long since I had been, well... anywhere. My mom, scared of 'negative influences' had pulled me out of school in third grade. I would still be there were it not for my uncle Tom, who managed to convince my mother I was now mature enougn to avoid the 'corruption' that ran deep through the entirety of the American education system.

"Jack McCarter?" A sharp voice pierced the veil of my thoughts, dragging me back to reality.

"The one and only" I grinned, attempting to elicit a smile in response. Unfortunately, my gesture was not returned. My smile faded under the receptionists steely glare. She handed me a time-table, and pointed towards the stairs.

"History, first floor, class 43 - don't be late" I smiled awkwardly, clearing my throat as I turned, my cheeks tinged pink. I turned away quickly, walking straight into...

"Angela?"

Notes:

I thought I'd use this chapter to set the scene - just a little introduction to hopefully a longish story. The next chapter will be out soon :)
